Weapons Check

I read the prop and weapon policy on the AN site and I still wasn't sure whether or not I would be allowed to bring a toy hand guns, you know the ones with the orange caps on the ends? Or If I could bring a water pistol and just paint it black? If Anyone knows the answer to this that would be awesome. I tried e-mailing the staff and they didn't get back to me.
Thanks!

That I know of it HAS to have the orange cap on it.
It can't look like a gun or be completely painted D=
Again its just a guess xD

I've e-mailed the weapons master about this before and their response was the gun must have an orange tip according to Canadian law unless the gun does not look like a gun. In other words if the gun you are using is a toy store gun then you have to leave the tip orange, but if the gun you are using is exaggerated and obviously not real then you are fine.

I'd say e-mail the weapons master if you are not sure. They usually reply quite quickly and just in case things have changed since I e-mailed them last.

Since you are thinking of using a water gun, the only other thing they might mention is to plug the chamber. While they do allow them, they do not like them to be used.

Weapons/props check

I'm posting this here because it is related to cosplay, and I figured lots of people here would have experience with this. I'm planning to make a staff for one cosplay this year and I honestly can't think of anything to make it from other than a broomstick handle. Will that be a problem at the weapon's check desk? Last thing I want is for my prop to get taken.

nope the only issue they have is with metal pipe. Metal in general that could be used as weapon, a thick metal pipe is also something of concern.

Here are their rules.

I once made a prop out of a broom handle and it was aluminum (I bought it from dollarama). The weapon master almost didn't let it go because it was made of metal.

As an option you can get PVC or wood dowels from hardware stores. Rona has the extra long dowels in their large stores.

as long as its a wooden broom handle, you're fine...

MY question is... we have our group leader picking up passes on Thursday, and we can't get there ourselves, but we can get there early on Friday... is weapons check open at 2pm like pick up is? and if so, if we already have our passes, can we bypass the reg line to go get our weapons checked? and can we get the weapons checked for all 3 days at this time?

Weapons check is open at the same time as pass pickups. Weapons check is open all 4 days. Thur-Sunday. The hours they open slightly very depending on when the people get their but the idea is once your got your pass you go straight to weapons check.

They will want you to go straight into the weapons check and the people at the door will probably packed if you had them check right away.

Ah! I hadn't thought of PVC, this is a good idea, and much more customizable in terms of length, thanks!

By B-Rabbit was made of white PVC pieces with it sectioned into 3 parts for travel. (wood dowel used as joiner pieces)

I actually have the same question; one of my characters has a frying pan with her so I'm thinking of bringing one with me as a prop. I read the rules already but just wondering if it'll get taken away when I go to have it checked out. At Dtac, someone actually cosplayed the same character, though she brought a really small one and I asked one of the girls I was hanging out with if I was as allowed to bring one with me and I was, just not to go around hitting people with it (of course not).

Best to contact the weaponmaster@animenorth.com first and ask directly. I've seen them at other con's but I'm not sure what their take on that is. (Rapunzel or cooking Mama?)

Because a cast iron skillet can be used as a weapon.

Ah, ok. Yeah, that's what I mean because Dtac is like a small local con, and AN is a bigger con so thats why i'm wondering.
Haha, no the character that has it is in my avatar xP

Yep, and since my prop is real is another reason for me to ask.
