Cosplay beginner: How can I keep from overheating?

I finally decided to get involved with cosplay and am doing an espeon Pokemon outfit with six-pack abs. I was planning to do cool pack gel inserts to keep the two piece suit warm, but I heard from a cosplayer that I'd have to cool it every hour or else once it gets room temp it suffocates the suit.

what would be best to insert into the abs part to keep my body cool?

http://store.coolvest.com/spare-cooling-packs/ They're the inserts that come with cooling vests.. they last 2.5 hours, and cool down again in 20 minutes, which should be ok if you have a hotel room close by..
Also, watch the materials you make the costume out of.. avoid polyester if you want to stay cool.

The price almost made me faint, but 2.5 hours is a lot better than 1. Since my costume is going to be so expensive in materials already, I don't think I can do it. Maybe I can bring it up to the people I'm working with and find a cheaper version. Thanks for the advice.
