Victorian style 'do-but without the poof?

I'll be Cosplaying a Victorian-era assassin (a la assassin's creed) in june and i've come across a bit of a problem. Most Victorian-era hairstyles are rather...poofy? and with the hood on it distorts the silhouette quite a bit. Does anyone know of a historically accurate style that would lay flat? on the top and in the back at least. Thank you!

Everything back then was bunched up in the back. Maybe you could try a long side braid? That was typically a more -before bed time- kind of style, but it might work.
