Please pray for Boston

AT LEAST TWO DEAD, DOZENS INJURED AT BOSTON MARATHON: A series of explosions happened near the finish line of the marathon just a couple of hours ago. Police don't know at this time or aren't saying what the possible cause was.
27,000 people take part in the race. 22 people hurt.

Praying for everyone that has been injured or killed

You know what's better than praying (and instantly helpful and beneficial in saving lives)? Donating blood or money. They really, really need it.

But for those who can do neither (and because the red cross has said they are all set on blood), prayers, well wishes, and whatnot are always appreciated.

Pretty much. I had some words with somebody on my facebook newsfeed, who posted what at first appeared to be a horribly graphic picture of an injured victim. But another commentator pointed out that the image had been photoshopped to make it look like that poor guy's legs were gone completely. The bodies are not even cold yet, and somebody is spreading doctored photos and hoaxes.

I commented that yes, they should take that down as there's no need to contribute to hoax spreading. That, and even if the image was real, it's an awfully gruesome thing to just plop on people's facebook feeds with no warning, and surely the victims deserve some respect.

Yeah, generally when people post that shit, I unfriend them. Whether it be animals post-gruesome abuse, or victims of something like this...I don't need to see it.

I don't begrudge her plea to pray for victims. True I do agree that donating blood or other supplies would be infinately more helpful, but most likely they already have what they need in Boston and you should just donate locally to those in need of blood for operations and food supplies.

However you have to remember one of the primary reasons Gods came into being was for people to feel they had some level of control over events they had no control over. (people praying for rain, praying for the sick, praying for food when crops failed, ect) So the fact that she wants to help, but has no easy way to do so explains her desire for prayer.

What I DO find troubling is the blinders that people put on. Dozens were killed and hundreds wounded in Iraq today, just hours before 2 were killed in Boston. I'm certain most people were unaware of this.

"Insurgents launched what appeared to be a highly coordinated string of attacks across Iraq on Monday morning, killing at least 36 and wounding more than 200, according to officials"

http://www.foxnews.com/world/2013/04...s-across-iraq/

No prayers or comfort for those civilians? Or are we so self absorbed that we are immune to the suffering of "those people over there"

Ok -- to people who are complaining about other tragedies that haven't been talked about, why didn't you talk about them before someone posted this one? Don't come here and hijack someone else's request for help and prayers. That's tacky and tasteless regardless of which side you're on. Go make it a different thread. It's not a competition.

I believe they were set on blood for the day and will begin accepting more blood tomorrow.

Yeah, pretty much that too. Compassion isn't a zero-sum game. I'm watching news footage now, and it's a horrible thing- nobody should have to go through that.

They had an interview with a trauma surgeon, and I couldn't get over the insensitive things some of the reporters were asking- "What's the most horrific thing you've seen so far"?
Really?

As for gross facebook stuff, I witnessed a spat between two people on my friend list once- one was an animal rights activist who often posted things about abuse. Another lady asked her if she could hide the image or make it so that you had to click to view it, and Miss Animal Rights blew up- she felt that if you objected to those images then you were not really a friend of the animals. Ok, whatever..

If we didn't have Pinoy how would we go on?

With the endless insight and guidance she delivers I am sure that most of us wouldn't even know which way 'round our pants go on.

I want a daily calender that has new Pinoy wisdom quotes written on each day.

To be fair she does have a point in this case.
