Crab monster armor

I figured this would be the best place to post this since it deals with armor. I am making this and I am trying to figure out how to make the shell. Basically it is a crab monster and I want to make the head, body armor and claws look uniform. someone suggested paper mache over chicken wire but I am concerned I wouldn't get it looking nice. I've never worked with fiberglass so I am leery to pick it up. Does anyone have suggestions? Also what should I use as a base? I was thinking either some wire mesh type material or foam sheets

in the event you fall back to paper mache
done use chicken wire
near it is black/green plastic fencing
works the same but less bleeding

These should give a general idea, I am working out how I will make the plats slide over each other and whatnot currently its just material concerns

I was helping a guy on this forum squirrel around with something similar in concept. He made a big ol scorpion tail.

Used chicken wire and expanding foam I think. I suggested using komatex (expanded pvc foam) for the plating. I think he used that or something similar in the end. I remember the pictures being good of the final product.

I do this sort of expanding foam + plastic method on my Reckless Fist sword. Hope it helps! I linked my build log for the sword. Happy cosplay!
