Interpreting the Lines on AIKA's Dress?

Hello, everyone. I hope this is the right forum for this, sorry.

I am planning to cosplay AIKA from .hack//Link and I am having trouble interpreting what two parts of her dress are supposed to be.

First, the bodice part appears to have a front center seam of some sort? It just seems weird to me for a dress to have a seam there. Is that maybe supposed to be a busk closure or something? Second, on the skirt part, there are lines going down the center, but I don't think they are supposed to represent material with stripes. Pleats maybe? Textured fabric? Any ideas?

Here is a reference:

Thank you so much in advance!

They look like seams to me. You could fake it with satin stitches, though. I can't tell if the material appears slightly quilted or not.

Lots of drawn costumes are made unrealistically - these people typically don't know how clothing is made or even if they do they might take artistic license.

I agree that they're both supposed to be seams, although on skirt it's possible they're pleats - what does the hem look like ?

It's possible to shape a bust from a CF seam, though you'd need a stretch fabric to get it form fitting and likely have to build it over a more sturdy under-layer. Cutting on the bias might work. Or you could do the CF seam and other seams or darts in a more realistic manner - you could even use something like a fabric dye pen in a subtle shade to enhance just the CF seam if you wanted.

This is the only point in the game where you can see the bottom of the dress:

I was thinking that I'd make the top structured almost like a corset, using spiral steel boning for support, so I think I've got the "sturdy under-layer" part down. Unless you have another suggestion? I like the fabric dye pen idea. Thank you so much!

It's not definitive from that picture, but I think box pleats would look really nice and fit with the general fanciness of the dress.

If you have a structured under-layer you can then put a "fashion" layer over that has minimal seams - even just four or even only two seams ! You might encounter the issue of the boning showing through a thin stretch material so you might want to plan on a layer to hide that if the "fashion" fabric is going to be pretty thin. Felt, a thin quilted fabric, maybe even a fleece - stuff like that that will be able to go over the bones and smooth everything out so they don't show through.
