Tips on Painting a Bokken?

Hi, I have a very vague idea of how to go about painting a bokken to be represented as a katana. Heres an example of what I'm working with.

I'm sure some sanding will be involved. But I'm more concerned with what type of paints to use.

I'm also looking for input on how it would be painted. Feel free (especially all of you who has done something like this before) to add your input to this list of my plan:

-Add a white base first as primer.
-Coat with pearl white paint for glossy finish
-Add a silver type paint for texturing
-Charcoal/Black paint for lining and detailing

Appreciate the input!
