Major news for Adobe software users

I know many of you here are probably computer artists for a living and have probably used Adobe Software. I just heard of a major change which is going serious affect your living. Starting June 1st, they are killing off Creative Suite in favor of Creative Cloud. Instead of paying one time up front, you are forced to rent its software indefinitely for $20 per month for education use or $50 a month at retail for the whole package that you may not use. (A single program costs $10 to $20 per month.) I am sure that many of you are already tight on money so do you serious really want a subscription fee for the software that is critical to your work on top of your regular bills for your living?

What's more is that I have heard really bad things about the cloud service. The program phones home far more then it should. If you fail to miss a subscription deadline it could
crash your computer using it. Also Adobe and the cloud server it is located on have a notorious safety record when it comes to fixing security holes.

I hope that you spread word about this change as it is going to be catastrophic for amateurs, infrequent users, students, and low income people who are critical to the future success of the programs. It feel it is time to scrap Adobe software as a result of it and find alternatives.

It probably doesn't come close enough to Adobe suites for professionals who need everything it has, but for casual/hobby use, Linux has Gimp (it's version of photoshop) that works great and is free (all my photos are edited on gimp). Not sure what Linux has for video editing, sound or other high-quality creative software, though.
