Dark Raiden assistance?

Hello there! I am new to the forums. I just joined today and I am looking forward to interact with all you guys. I am also new to cosplay, but I have already created one costume. My first costume was making Raiden from Mortal Kombat (2011) and let me tell you, I WAS NOT SATISFIED. I created this for Halloween 2012. I couldn't find any type of material to make the armor at the time and I didn't know how to make the cloth. I was frustrated at the end of the day, but decided to wear it on the day of Halloween.
This year, I'm looking for redemption. I want to create Raiden's alternate costume from Mortal Kombat (2011).
I have found out about Wonderflex, and its just the thing I need! I already made plans on deciding how much wonderflex I need. The problem is, I'm still VERY NEW to the cloth (for the cape). I'm also new on how to create some armor pieces of the cosplay. Things such as detailing with the needle tool, painting/coloring the costume, and all that.
Your help on this will make all the difference! I look forward to working and talking to you guys in the comment section!
Thanks a million!

One step at a time then.

What do you want to start with first?

I'm thinking about the chest plates and the back plate of the armor. I'm just thinking what I'm going to do for the base to mold the wonderflex on.

Wait, you want this to be shape conforming to your body?

Looking at the armor, that doesn't seem to be necessary. It seems to follow a basic shape similar to samurai armor.

But to size it, it's just a matter similar to sewing getting your relative waist line and shoulders. A fabric backing will definitely help with this which is one that goes with your dark raiden cosplay.

I already have the measurements for the armor, I did it by looking at the 360 view model of Dark Raiden in game. Alas, these are only estimates since I put them as rectangles and measured them for how much square inches of wonderflex it'll take. Once I cut them out, I'll cut it to the shape of the armor.

Also, I never heard of a fabric backing haha. Mind explaining?

Two questions I have though is do I need a base (such as paper, helmets or anything for that matter) for the wonderflex (I think I already asked before, but I don't think I was specific enough. I mean for the shoulder guards. They seem hard to mold without a base.)?

It's whats done with most foam type armor with gluing fabric to the back of it. Gives it more durability and such.

That depends on the person. Different experience levels dictate your method of how you would go about it.

I don't sew but I will link my methods for making basic plastic armor from expanded PVC foam (Komatex / Sintra). Hope that helps!
