looking older/younger than you are

Sooo just had a really annoying thing happen :-(

A guy who's seen my family around over the years came up to me and my sister and said "so which one of you is starting college soon?" In England we start college at 16. My sister is 15 and will be starting in Sept. I am 23 have be through college, then four years at uni and i'm now working as a Primary Teacher. Seven years age gap between me and my sister and the guy couldn't tell which of us was oldest :-(

I look ridiculously young for my age and I hate it.

Lasy year I took my sister and her friend ice skating and asked for a family ticket, the guy said which one of you is the adult. They were both 14 I was 21.

Anyone else get frustrated by this???

When you're much older and look like 20 you'll probably start to appreciate it haha.

But I understand it must be frustrating, since younger people don't really get respect.

Yeahh. When I'm not wearing makeup I have been mistaken as 14. Most people don't believe I'm over 18 with makeup anyways. Well oh well.

I never hear anybody say they look older than they are but I do. I was getting mistaken for a college freshman when I was a high school freshman and early thirties when I was in my mid twenties. I pretty much have a face that's wanted to look about 42 since I was 18. I'm still catching up.

I understand how you feel, but I think most of it has to do with the person who is guessing your age. They just don't have an accurate perception of age. I'm 20, and I've met people who thought I was as young as 14.

I know I don't look 14, when people think I'm 16 or 17 I give them the benefit of the doubt. When they think I'm younger than that, I think they don't converse with people who are actually 14 often.

I did find it humorous when I went to the bank with my mom last week. The man behind the counter asked if I was done with school yet. I assumed he was talking about college in general, so I responded with a no. He then said, "Oh, I guess you guys still have a week or two left, huh?"

I then realized he thought I was in high school and let it slid.

It can be frustrating at times, but I don't really mind it so much anymore. And Isikaru is right, it will benefit you in the future. C:

People usually think I'm 19 or 20. I'm 23. And as a rule I always get carded when buying alcohol (legal age here in Ontario is 19) or lotto tickets, and almost everyone thinks I'm a university student (well, I'm going back to college in the fall, BUT I also went right out of high school in 2007 and graduated 2009...). My Mom's the same; she's almost 47 and gets thought to be in her mid-late thirties.
(And I tend to dress in a late-teens early-twenties style if I don't have to dress up, so that probably helps. I dread the day I no longer suit cute t-shirts, hoodies and skinny jeans.)

It can be annoying, but then sometimes it comes in handy. I got out of trouble with the cops once cause they thought I was still a kid and told me to "run along". It seems if I wear something really chic with my pearls and my hair down people think I'm older (closer to my real age) but it seems showing my tattoos does not. Odd huh?

My brother has grey in his beard so even though he is seven years younger than I am, people think he's older than me. Hahaha.
