I don't understand why people spend good money on cosplay if they don't go to conventions or celebrate Halloween. I mean, I understand the desire to cosplay, but I think that showing off your costume is part of the fun.

I get jealous and insecure very easily. I constantly compare myself to others, when cosplaying especially, and a lot of hateful and bitter feelings have come out of becoming jealous of people simply because they do it better than me. I know I need to stop being so serious and competitive, but I can't seem to help feeling inferior all the time.

I do the same thing
If I see someone else dressed as the same character as me it really drives me nuts and I'll over-scrutinize and judge until it isn't fun anymore and it completely defeats the purpose. I'd like to be able to see someone else dressed as the same character and go AWESOME and give them a hi-five (if they look better than me or not) but I just end up kinda scornful and judgmental? Why do conventions bring this out of us? It's an icky feeling.

^^ Me too guys, me too.

I have a horrible habit of looking down on my friend for being lazy about her cosplays. She's a "hot glue and duct tape" kind of cosplayer and I guess I get some sort of pleasure thinking, "hey, I'm better then her! That oufit sucks," but I always end up feeling really guilty after I think that, especially considering I'm not even that good of a cosplayer.

Also, what I wouldn't give to have a cosplay partner or be part of a group! That's one of my dreams; to become really close with a group of fantastic cosplayers and just take cute pictures together, goof off and make videos, and generally just be a bunch of adorable dorks together.

I don't make my costumes either but I do put a lot of work into figuring out who the best person is to buy my stuff from (I make my wigs though). And I do this too. When people use those generic Halloween costumes for their cosplays, I don't say anything, but whenever I see that I just sit there and silently judge. I understand that there are people of all levels who cosplay, but I honestly think it is pretty lazy to go to a Halloween store, pick up a generic Halloween costume and then call it cosplay. I have actually encountered people who told me straight up that they put "so much work into their costume, wow it took forever!"... and I'm just like.... You actually think I am going to believe that???

Same. Story of my life :P. Sometimes I get into modes where I will look at pics of other cosplayers (well professional impersonators...) who do the same character as me, and I really admire all of their work but I can't help but to compare myself to them. I'm always just like, "Damn, I will never make a convincing Jack Sparrow because of the way I look... "*sigh*.

I actually like talking to cosplayers that may look like they half-assed their cosplays because they intimidate me less. Talking to cosplayers who look super professional kinda makes me nervous lol

Ohhh I have another cosplay confession along that same line of thinking:

Sometimes I wonder if I intimidate other cosplayers, to a certain extent I kinda wish I had that effect on people lol
Maybe that's just because I get intimidated really easily though, that may just be me projecting my feelings onto other people and wanting people to feel the same way I do. :P I could never be intimidating though, I'm too short (or at least that's what my friends tell me)

I enjoy getting a picture taken by a cosplayer much more than someone not wearing a cosplay.

when twilight came out, a man dressed as the vamp from it came to anime bonzai, well he was grabbed before he could buy his ticked, by an Alucarsd, a Vinvent valentine and a vampire hunter D, they escorted him out, physically, and told him to come back when he got a Real costume. i wish i had video of it.note, he did not come back, at least not in that costume.

CosplayJelly - I did go to Katsucon (was my first year going, and damn I am definitely going to that con again! It was the most amazing venue I have ever been to lol).
lol Thank you ...but I guess I don't want to be intimidating if people then won't want to approach me... I guess that wasn't the right way to describe what I wondered.
But Ahhhhh you should have said Hi to me xD

OK ONE MORE COSPLAY CONFESSION: i forget to eat meals for all 3 days at most conventions unless eating becomes a social event where i go with buddies, and at the end find out i lost 5lbs of water weight, and then i gain it back a day later.

That's horrible. Just because you don't like something doesn't mean you get to bully and exclude someone else for liking it. I'm not a fan of Twilight either, but jesus, that's a bit much. I would have escorted the poor guy in myself.

Okay, so time for another confession. I hate "fanservice" and I wish people would save it for private photoshoots. I don't get what the appeal of taking photos of two people kissing is, while everyone else just stands awkwardly to the side. Plus, the thought of kissing someone I don't even know just creeps me out.

I see it at Homestuck shoots all the time (I always seem to stumble across them). They just call people up to kiss and be cute. All the pictures they take, they're awkward and from a distance. If they had a photographer who actually knew what they were doing instead of a bunch of people standing back, it might not be so weird, but...
