This thread is for posting your thoughts/opinions on Anime Expo 2013!

From your experience this year, what were the pros and cons? What were the highlights and lowlights? Would you return again next year?

Also, you can discuss the particulars of the convention, such as the events, panels, masquerade, dances, etc., as well as what you thought about the con and hotel staff, the guests, convention space, food, dealer's room, attendees, and whatever else pertaining to this year's AX!

The lines to get in were hellish but the cosplay gatherings were well worth the wait. I am so glad that there was not a heat-wave during the convention.

Day one lines were incredible. Security seemed extra tight. But the weather was great, and the crowd was energetic and friendly. Seemed like there were a ton of people there, and I had a great time.

Con was good this year with the exception of them getting worse with the whole peace bonding thing. They did not allow my wooden ichigo bankai sword and my oblivion keyblade that ive taken to the con for the past 3 years. I had to end up taking off the chain in order to get peace bonded which takes alot away from the prop.

PRO's :

Concerts were Awesome (Visual Kei Concert) = CELL,Moon Stream,Kaya. This was one of the Best Concerts I have been to in a while, CELL was just so Awesome and full of energy, when the Singer fell off stage he fell 3 feet from me, I felt really bad for him as he did not get up right away (Maybe really embarrassed) but the show went on and ended on a good note! 2nd time for me seeing Kaya, this guy has an awesome voice and regardless him dressing as a woman he has MAJOR Talent and puts on a Awesome Performance for ALL his Fans! Moon stream was amazing as always!

Raffle Autograph tickets were kinda cool, you get your ticket leave to go do what u want to do and come back get your spot in line, so you don't have to wait forever and ever doing nothing until then.

Dealers Hall had a lot of good stuff, i bought some Anime Dvd's pretty cheap from $5-$20 that usually go for $30-65 online. so i got some good deals.

Staff was NICE! 90% of them were able to help me with what i needed and/or able to answer questions i had. staff I think was better informed on what was going on this year and because of this was able to answer my questions better then the last 5 years. Thank You to the (Anime Expo Staff) you guys are Great!

Cosplayers Can I just say that (YOU) are (ALL) (AMAZING)!!! Oh my Gosh, such DETAIL and Hard Work went into EVERYONE'S Cosplays this year!! (YOU = COSPLAYERS) are one of the MAIN reasons I attend AX every year! Thank you to ALL that allowed me to take their Pictures. (I will post in the *Pictures* area on this board) when I have them up! Please Look forward to them!
------------

CONS

Had a BAD experience with bag check guy on day 2. this Bag Check guy Tells me NO it's ok don't take off Backpack, so he tells me to turn around and starts Hitting me in the back and sides of Backpack, then Hits the top of my Canon Camera Case with my camera inside, WHAT THE HECK, I had breakables and merchandise in my backpack, did NOT APPRECIATE that very much. the guy then looks at me smiles and says ok you can go.

The Crowded EVERYTHING, I knew as soon as I saw ALL the people there on Day 1, i knew there was going to be Record Breaking Numbers for AX with Attendance, just can't move ANYWHERE, perhaps it's time to start using the HUGE Dealers Hall Downstairs as well.... I am very happy that AX is growing that's good! but 11,000 attendance jump is HUGE!

------------------

Yea, i did not have that many Gripes this year, I had an Awesome time for a 6th Straight Year I will be back for a 7th & Beyond! Thank You to (Anime Expo) for putting on a Con that I can Get away for 4 days and Enjoy Life to the Fullest with the BEST of Anime, Concerts & Cosplayers!

The security was horribly flawed. When asked what they were searching for they replied with "glass bottles and weapons". Everytime they checked bags, they only checked one compartment. Also I notcied they were only stationed at the South and west hall main entrances but not the side or back entrances from various parking garages.

Didn't get to do very much this year because I kept getting to the con late (ugh!). But anyway.

This year was decent, with the experience being dumb-downed by the excessive amount of people on Day 2 and the line wait in Day 1. But, the wait was partially my fault, since I couldn't make it earlier during the morning; otherwise, the line went smoothly, without completely stopping for more than five minutes.

Security is a joke. I was only bag checked twice, one when I was already inside the con, and the other in the side entrance where barely anyone went through. First guy checked my bag by just squishing it, and the other swished around my bag like a wine glass. Not to mention the blank stares. I get the long day--my friends work as staffers at a different CO--but when you're getting paid, at least try having the decency to say something.

For me, the guests this year was alright. AX was pretty unorganized when it came to a lot of the showings and panels compared to other years. Still bummed I couldn't get into Blue Exorcist. Dealers' Hall was obviously still the highlight of every year for me--great deals from certain vendors! Got plenty of expensive models and gundams with docked off prices.

AX was decent for me this year in the end. Little things like a booth known as Cosplay Deviants bummed me out after they waited for me to walk past them just so they could hand a card to my unsuspecting boyfriend. It's pretty rude to do. I wouldn't have minded as much if they handed it to me. But to hawk down a taken male secretly behind the girlfriend is pretty damn plain messed up.

Also, parking costs sucked. But as I hear from friends who's been security for LACC in the past, it has more to do with the city of LA. Not much you can do there.

One more big plus for me this year though was the arcade/ game room. Big step up in my opinion. It pretty much appealed to almost all gaming genres, so that was awesome.

I feel the Guest of Honor panels are far too short. They are scheduled to run for an hour but realistically, there's only about 45 minutes to work with. Since these are special guests, I feel that the panels should run at least 1 hour 30 minutes to give fans a better and unrushed experience with the guests of honor.

I really enjoyed the convention this year. My only suggestion is that it would be so nice if AX could mail our badges to us rather than asking us to wait in line for hours on Day 0. Obviously there must be a cutoff date (say, sometime in May or June) but it would dramatically cut waiting times.

I think that is a great idea given how hellish the lines were on Day 0 and Day 1.

I had an amazing time meeting so much cosplayers and attended some cosplay gatherings. This is why I keep coming back for those reasons!

Goods:
-Despite how huge the line is. You gotta admit that it kept on moving and manage to handle all that con attendees with a fast pace unlike some other cons. I'm very impressed.
-OMG! The Gaming hall is HUGE!! Waaaay bigger than last year. I wish it was 24 hours but man it's one crazy of a size!
-Scene booth is VERY interesting and I took pic with the classroom. Very cool.

Bads:
-I had to tell this staff that my Brain Age cosplay is NOT a sign that even the other cosplay friend told him the same thing (She did a really good Black Star Shooter cosplay). He did stated about why the Box Gundam cosplayer was fine. And then I had to take out my phone to actually prove it to him. At least he let me go. I know the Box Gundam guy in person and if he can do that then I should be fine.
-Video Game tournaments needs a bit more of an variety. It would be nice to have some other retro game like tournament since the console section now have 6 retron 3 consoles (I have one too for future con purposes).

Here's my personal feedback for Specificaly for the AX Dance. I wish that AX Dance is held at a bigger room that could of solved the long line problem that discouraged me every night to attend. For the Shinjiku Ball, I had so much high expectation of the event and I was excited that the Masquerade Ball was revived back from the dead but I was very disappointed the fact that many people did not pay respect to the traditional formal dance attire that they just randomly showed up for curiousity. I wish that the formal dance would be enforce and would spread around the con via facebook event. I never got to have my workshop processed through the event that it made it harder for most people not knowing what to do at the Shinjiku Ball. The music needs actually Anime/Gaming ballroom dance music. I did like the first couple minutes of using mainstream songs but I felt like there's something off about the song list that I left early when we had the last dj. However I did like the concert performance which I haven't seen in other Anime cons that it kind of interested to ask other formal ball to try out.

Pros:

- Meeting Nozi Ito and getting her autograph (and having her say she liked my costume...wish I'd worn my Haruhi costume)
- Hanging out with good friends
- Cosplaying for four days straight despite some wig and costume issues
- Porno Graffiti concert was AMAZING
- Entertainment Hall? Great idea..loved the different cosplay sets

Cons:
-Clueless staff on Day 1 that didn't even know there was supposed to be a Premier line for panels...it took five Access Control staffers to decide they needed to start one
- Rude security/LACC staff
- Arcade still seemed a bit small, but really this is a minor gripe since I don't spend money to go to cons to play games
- Hotel issues (this one is not AX's fault) The JW Marriott told my friend that our room was ready only to open the door to a room that wasn't cleaned (it was a freaking mess). It took two hours before it was finally cleaned...

We need to tell more people that they don't have to stand in line for hours because of the line placeholder tickets. People were complaining to me about others getting back in line about 10 minutes before their spot got to the front of the line while they had stood there for an hour. I kept trying to tell them that they also had the right to leave the line and that no one was forcing them to stand in line, but they just didn't understand.

Not sure how that can be helped though. =/

They most definitely need a different system for getting our badges. Mailing them and having more check-in stations, not doing the phone scan thing (wasn't working for a lot of people and therefore stalling the line). There are probably a million different ways to do it better. Other than that it was awesome. As usual I got a quite a few rude comments for not wearing anime cosplay lol but I do know it's an anime expo, I just wish people would learn when to shut their pie hole sometimes.

Only real complaints I have: parking and the crowds @_@

The pre-reg line was insanely crowded even on Day 1, when I went. I know from other friends that Day 0 lines were no joke as well. I thought maybe the badge line was disorganized, but later on I found out that there was a huge jump in attendees this year. I think I felt that on Day 3 when I was about to get off of the freeway right next to the convention center and I was stuck in traffic for nearly an hour! Me and my friends could even see the con on our right side, but we were stuck on that small strip of an exit lane for nearly an hour. Completely insane. And the crowds once we got into the con were crazy as well @_@; I know that's beyond AX's control, but man...seriously CROWDED on Day 3

Parking, again, I know AX has no control over this, but 20 dollars for parking. Really. I know some people that spent 80 dollars for the whole weekend just on parking alone. I know there are lots nearby, but I've noticed that they jump up to 20 dollars after 12 in the afternoon. I normally park inside the convention center because I don't like walking that much in my cosplay shoes and in the heat with my cosplay on, but I was shocked to see that the fees for parking inside were 20 this year. I thought the maximum was 15 dollars D:

I was planning to get a hotel room next year regardless, but dang, now I'm even more convinced that me and my friends NEED to get a hotel room if parking is going to be that expensive for next year.

But overall, fun AX experience Probably one of the best for me personally. Never had problem with rude staff, bag check people complimented me multiple times on my cosplay, and everyone was very respectful. <3
