Heroes of Cosplay

Heroes of Cosplay is a new show on Syfy (Here is the link)
Thoughts?
I have heard one person say "Heroes of cosplay just does not sit right. It kind of goes against the spirit of cosplay of being for fun and for the love of a character… Does any one else feel this way?"
Tell me your thoughts.

Fuck 'em. Not my heroes, and the show has nothing to do with how I cosplay or what I enjoy about it.

This show bugs me. A lot. I hate watching something on the Sy-Fy channel and having the "Heroes of Cosplay" reminder stare into my soul. I liked it better when cosplay was for fun and not a huge contest.

Cosplay is still for fun. One show on cable doesn't change the nature of a hobby hundreds of thousands of people participate in.

I somewhat agree with you, I feel like this is taken into a huge contest for fame and money and it is taken what cosplay for alot of us. I personally do it for fun and because I am passionate about the character, to go to conventions and make friends, bond over the same interest not for the fame or money. I don't know that's my personal opinion.
Also because I feel like it is being exposed and it feels like it's not as meaningful, they make it look like, i don't know how to explain in, it just bugs me alot that syfy would do that.

I don't really care, just when people try to talk to me about it like I should.

"There's going to be a show about blah blah blah cosers on the teevee!!"

Meh, it's swill. I find it hilarious that the website itself features a majority of women with a token guy for good measure.

The show itself could be worse, but it's nothing other than a glorified podium for someone's own view of a hobby.

It's sorta kinda hilarious that I haven't heard a single person above the age of 18 who has any interest in the various cosplay programs being churned out.

Those that do express being upset that a news channel calls cosplayers 'weird'.

I think it's pretty clear that these programs aren't really made for the cosplay community when no one in this community (as a whole, not limited to coscom) really cares about it at all.

Actually, the amount of noise they've been generating point to the contrary --- Especially considering the first episode hasn't aired The extended first look make it sound like a crap reality show, using all the snazzy camera shots you expect out of that kind of entertainment. "Heroes of cosplay is a tantalizing docu-series"

You mean --- it has ALL OF THE BOOBIES. One of the top comments says "You mean Heroines of Cosplay." and it feels pretty accurate from the trailer.

I can't wait until someone on the show makes a dismissive comment about "Making your own stuff is the culmination of yourself as an artist" while trying to say the hobby is accepting XD

----

I thought the 'Crafting a secret identity' show was informative and doing exactly what it set out to do --- being a documentary, I didn't feel like it was so much building a story than showcasing cosplay *happening*, I also felt it was much more inclusive of general folks enjoying the hobby than trying to shoehorn idols, errr --- I mean 'Heroes'. Which is what I'm getting when I see a list of name-tags over a website advertising for a series.

Of course, it has an advantage seeing it has aired and HoC hasn't done anything yet other than causing a lot of chatter.

Strangely, they both feature a lot of the same people, photographers, cosplayers, yada-yada-yada. Though it feels like one is made with a desire for RATINGS and all that associated bullshit while the other just exists as its own piece, being essentially just a series of interviews.

It's TV though, as Mango said, it has no bearing on what hundreds of thousands of people in this hobby do it for. And there's no lying that a good load of the folks in 'Crafting a secret identity' are running businesses and this is decent advertisement for them.

(Somehow, I don't think they need it )

Watching it now.... uh, yea, this is horrible. Reminds me of every other reality show I've seen that makes me wish I could bleach my eyes.

It shouldn't be "heroes" or "heroines," it should be "Let's see how many boobs we can show on TV in this set amount of time!"/"Boobs of Cosplay (with some Furries thrown in)"

Uhhh... Created a Sharknado, creating a second Sharknado, re-used the entire plot of one of their movies to make a "new" movie (and both used carnivorous marine life!)... Need I go on?

This isn't a shock. It's Syfy. They've been going down the pipes quite quickly! And it all started with changing from Scifi to Syfy... But one annoying show won't ruin everything.
