Here's an odd question...

As stated in the title, I have an odd question: how does one sit comfortably and properly in a lolita outfit?

Pretty much the same way I sit when wearing any outfit that involves a knee-length or shorter skirt. Legs crossed or knees kept fairly close together. Seeing as proper lolita involves wearing bloomers, no need to panic too much if one sees a little too far up anyway!

Sometimes if I'm going to be sitting for a long period of time (like at a tea party or a concert) I'll hike my petticoat up a bit so I'm not sitting on it, because it can be lumpy and itchy.

Other than that, yeah, just sit the way you would normally in a mid-length skirt. Nothing really crazy other accommodating petticoats. I usually cross my legs or ankles, and rearrange the petticoat so it lays flat.

This is what I'm looking for. (Yay for early morning word fail). I was wanting to know how to "set" the skirt on the chair so things don't get crumpled or itchy petticoats.

Also, I like to look for stools with no backs. That way its quite easy to flip your petticoat and skirt over the stool when you sit, so that you're not sitting directly on the petticoat. But alas, sometimes stools arent always an option and the above suggestions work best in that case.

It will depend on what kind of petticoat you're wearing. I typically wear chiffon petticoats, so it's easy to just tuck the "poof" behind your butt in the chair. A tulle petticoat will get more crushed this way, so sometimes the best way to deal with a tulle petticoat is to spread it out as much as possible under your butt and tuck the excess at the sides. I would definitely wear comfortable bloomers if you're going to be sitting in a tulle petticoat for any significant length of time, because it will be itchy on your skin!

Sadly most places don't have stools without backs.

I don't currently have a petticoat, but I'm going to avoid the tulle ones completely. I've always had issues with tulle petticoats as a kid (even with thick tights on).

I sit on my butt with bloomers on the seat. That way there is less petticoat flattening, and especially at resturants, you don't know entirely what you may or may not be sitting in. So I don't like to sit on my dresses. The exception is in the car (especially when driving) because seat belts and less room to move around comfortably.

I mean it can get a bit uncomfortable especially when the petti is really poofy but I just cross my legs at the ankles. It usually works out.
