Back when I used commercial patterns I just went to a store and looked at them - they're contained in large catalogue books and then you go find the number of the one you like in the catalogue.

Now that the internet is so common you can do the same thing by searching on-line.

Learning to do a bit of research is absolutely essential if you're very exacting and want things just so. No one is going to be able to hand you the perfect thing, you might have to alter patterns or even draft your own depending on how "odd" the item you want to make is.

So... is this OUR costume or yours? Yours? Well then! The question is what do YOU think, not what we think. It's your costume, and you're going to be the one doing the work, not us. Frankly, to me, the constant need for validation is like saying "I can't do this without someone holding my hand, so do it for me", which I'd like to think you're not trying to do. If you find something that you think will work, then chances are, you'll make it work, so go with it. We aren't here to hold your hand.

And because it needs to be said, were it me making that dress, I'd probably opt for something different whereas someone else might choose yet another pattern. It's all about how you see things, so if you see "this looks like it!" then that's it. Nobody does things the same way and there is no right or wrong pattern (unless it's something so far off that it's impossible to work with).

Lets back up a bit.....

Doing a little homework into patterns before asking which one we think looks more correct to the character will give us the impression that you are aware of at least some of the process involved in making a costume from scratch and are willing to put in real effort.

Asking us to look up costumes for you (Digit is so incredibly kind in this regard!) tells me you don't know your butt from hot rocks and probably won't actually make anything.

Just posting a couple pictures and saying 'I want this' comes across like a spoiled child, which frankly is a huge turn off to which I often leave unanswered all together.

To reply in a snarky manner after being pointed in the right direction? umm, yeah don't expect anything past this post.

Yeah, I'm not nice enough to play fetch with Google search for someone who could have easily done it themselves. You want a pattern, look for one - if you really need help, try explaining in words why you're having trouble finding what you're looking for, show people that you're not just being a time-suck on everyone else who can't even lift their fingers to type "dress pattern" into Google.

This isn't just something on Cosplay.com - this is for asking a question on ANY forum. People think the regulars on XDA are "mean" because they tell new posters to search instead of tediously replying to every single basic question that the new person could have Googled themselves. Now, I've had to ask a really stupid, basic, question on there - and I did it in a way that no one was "mean" to me, I explained how I'd been trying to find the answer and where I was stuck so that they knew I actually tried and wasn't just coming in expecting people to vomit information at me.

This isn't even me being mean, by the way - trust me I could be mean but I'm not being mean right now.

respect -1000

Penlowe is one of the most helpful people here and you're just being rude and immature to one of the people who helps others the most on these forums.

People are trying to explain things to you nicely and be respectful. I didn't just link you to "Let Me Google that for You" because I genuinely wanted you to learn an important skill that will help you throughout life and was trying to be nice - something you're clearly not even attempting.

We understand people being new and being frustrated, but being an asshole to people who try to help you re-lean crucial research skills is not going to make you friends, it just makes you look like a spoiled 12-year-old.

I'm going to write you off as a troll because I don't want to believe that anyone is sincerely such a rash, immature person in reality even though intellectually I know it must be unfortunately true.
