I find the art at artist alley amazing but just like what Mangochutney said, I don't buy the art since I honestly have no use for it. I also tend to loose stuff quite easily and I think I've lost a dozen of my mini art I bought at a Korean convention for just 50 cent each. Of course those were the days where I first began attending conventions, but now I just look at them and admire the pieces.

I only get stuff I can use, and even then, it's hard to part this miser from a dollar. I got a mighty fine light switch plate last convention I went to, but I have no idea what I would ever do with a print.

Sure do! I'm a big fan of prints, although I'm terrible at framing them and hanging them up. I should probably that I'm talking about professional comics artists, I'm not above buying fan-stuff, it's just been awhile since I've bought anything.

In terms of sketches/comissions, I'm also a huge fan. I have a bunch of those blank Marvel covers and so fair have gotten a Daredevil (Reilly Brown, Daredevil #1), Emma Frost (Adam Hughes, Uncanny X-men 2011 #1) and a jam X-men sketch cover (X-Men Schism #1). I'm probably going with an Avengers theme jam cover next. I also have a bunch of sketchbook/single carded pro-sketches too!

I buy a ton of art prints at cons. Half the time I spend more in artist alley than I do on the dealer's floor. In the last year, I've bough three different Dragon Age prints, a katamari print, an Amnesia: the Dark Descent print, some Game of Thrones prints, couple batman prints (gifts for friends) and a portal print (also a gift). Usually spend anywhere from $5-$15 per print. I'm running out of wall space though, so I've had to slow down on the art buying.

I do enjoy browsing in the Artist's Alley, but I am not a normal purchaser of art.

For a variety of reasons; don't have use for it, might feel too old for some of it, too much on the pricey side, concern where to put it/not to have it clash or overkill with other pieces at home, doesn't cater to personal tastes etc Altogether, I also would have to really fall in love with it to make a purchase.

But, I have purchased other types of art that isn't drawings/prints/paintings - I got a 'mechnical' dragon one year that I love dearly, and a small handmade Finland Hetalia plushie (Couldn't help it, being Half-Finnish just decided to go for it. It's often not easy seeing Finnish anything anywhere where I am)
Next Con:

Future/In Progress Cosplays:
||Lyanna (95%) ::Game of Thrones ASOIAF||King Canute::Vinland Saga
|| ? ::Once Upon a Time || Princess Tutu::Princess Tutu{Coppelia}||Louise Belcher::Bob's Burger's

I sometimes buy art. I usually only buy phone charms, buttons or trinkets. I am not big on prints though, unless it's something from the Pon and Zi web comic. I'm really picky when buying ><; I'm not sure why but prints just don't do anything for me, I have no use for them and even if I love the artist I can't bring myself to buy prints. Other merchandise yes! Prints.. no...

My prized artist alley possession (I don't have photos :[ ) is a self published manga (I don't recall the title at the moment... :[ ) I read the series a long time ago and 2 years ago the artist had published their manga on their own. I bought it and got it autographed. They came back the following year with a short manga piece that was just the first part of the second volume, I got that autographed too! Sadly, I haven't seen the artist at the convention since :[ but I still look every year.

Whenever I go to a major con, I'm always guaranteed to walk out with a few things from the artist's alley. I mostly spend my money there. Sometimes, they have better stuff then the dealer's room and it's cheaper too!

I'll buy prints if I really like them, or if they feature a series it's hard to find merch of. And since I live in an apt, it's nice to have something I can decorate my walls with that won't get me into much trouble.

Not really. If I buy something its usually a cute plush or jewelry or buttons. Oh god, all the silly buttons. PopCult Buttons has gotten more of my money over the years.

Ususally yes. I love buying fan art as I do the same myself So I ike to see how others portray the characters I like. I have these 3 pics we got last year (on a buy 2 get one free deal) and the artist was one of the best I've ever seen. Last con (a week ago) I couldn't though..I didn't have much money at all an i wanted a figure and that's about all i could afford..

this thread may actually help me out. i dont often buy art, but i plan on selling it at my next con. i am putting some paintings into the art show. just curious...are paintings a viable thing to wish to sell at an anime con? due to the price and size painting are generally. Would people be willing to spend 100 on a one of a kind painting over a $5 print from artists ally?
