"Send as Gift, please! If not, please pay extra to cover the fees!"

Honestly, I'm tired of commissioners who ask this. Yes it sucks to have to lose money but the fees are there for a reason. I'm always asked to pay more to cover the % fees.

(Edit: If this isn't the best place to post this, admins by all means, move or delete the thread. Thanks.)

Most comissioners will work in what the fees are to their quote (but seriously, how DO you calculate it when you're not a merchant? EVERY time I tried I was completely wrong and lost money). It's sketchy as heck/unprofessional otherwise

As a commissioner myself, I do the freaking math. It ain't hard. They specifically state what % they take for a fee. If the commissioner can do the math which takes all if a google search, then they could just tack it into the total like I do.

You are right to not be asked to send as a gift. It's actually against paypal policy to send it as a gift if it's in exchange for anything. Like commissions, buying something, and anything that isn't just you giving away money for nothing. So the commissioners that ask that are braking the policy.

I just assume whatever side of the transaction I'm on (buyer or seller), that I'm going to wind up paying the fee. I just consider it "price of doing business" at this point.

Whether or not the fee is included on your quote or aid for by the commissioner, conventional wisdom is to never EVER send a payment as a gift. If something goes wrong you have no recourse. No way to set up a dispute. Nothing.

If you have to pay extra so be it. If the policy is distasteful there are plenty of other commissioners who cover the fee by default. Especially if they have a business account with Paypal. It looks like you can't send a gift to a business account even if you wanted to (people have tried sending me final payments as gifts as a form of tipping...can't do it).
