I've been to the Japanese Garden in Hermann Park, which is small but nice with a pond, bridges everywhere, bamboo, etc.

Arg... there's a place up near Spring which is really nice with a lake, bridge and tower-like building, but I don't remember the park's name. There's also Memorial Park and the Arboretum for any outdoors forest scenes.

Does any one know where there's a good hilly desert area in Texas?

The grassy, open area in The Woodlands Tx on the outside of the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion is a dream! nwn It's an open, clean park (without the actual "park"-ness), so it's more of a mini-plain. There's also a waterway *right* next to it, leading out of it, actually, and there's a downtown area (like around the movie theater and restaurants) that's straight out of a postcard. xD I've taken a few shots there in my Haruhi cosplay. There are lots of fish and a few turtles in the waterway (which is pretty big, by the way), not to mention pretty robins and cardinals, and I even got a shot with a bird on my hand! :3 Not to mention all the other beautiful areas in the Woodlands. There's a glassy lake and an empty park that's on the same level as the ground that's completely still. I always see it when I commute... It would be nice to take photos there, although I haven't.

The Conroe area has a lot of beautiful, photogenic areas, too. There are lakes and parks galore, but more flowers and hills in The Woodlands. :'D

If you're closer to Houston than the more northern areas, I definitely recommend Herman Park and the Japanese garden they have there. It's very photogenic, but watch out, because last week when I went there with my sister, there was a gathering of hobos on the benches, and it was quite awkward... Also, there's a sunflower trail somewhere near Herman Park, which I walked a while ago; It's really beautiful. Don't forget about downtown Houston if you're looking for more "urban" shots- there's a skate park which leads to a walkaround through downtown.

To Kawaii_Pocky: It depends on where you live, but El Paso, downtown Houston, and Conroe seem to have an abundance of sand. Yes, I say downtown Houston because there's always a sand dune pile near the bayou. :'P Conroe has TONS of empty sand lots, though! Just drive around near the more rural areas and you'll come across acres of untied, very sandy, land. If all else fails, you could go to the local park and take some shots, then edit out the playground equipment (which you can do pretty well via Picnik.com).

Good God, that was a lot of typing. Have fun cosplaying~! Maybe I'll see you guys around. n.n

I used downtown Houston for my Durarara!! shoot!
On a bank.
Next to an intersection.
On the street.
On top of a parking garage.

BUT I need to know of places that have (for separate photoshoots)
DUNES of sand. (Aladdin)
Dystopian, rundown urban stuff (Ergo Proxy)
Stars that can be seen at night OR one hell of a telescope. (Harvest Moon: Animal Parade)
Long, tiled hallways (with very few people.) (Elfen Lied)

This thread kind died, like almost a year ago, but I wanted to add in Rob Flemming Park as well as The Portofino area in The Woodlands. If you know how to get there, they're both great for photo shoots.

I'm from the Conroe area, and I might add that downtown Conroe has that new park that has a hill and pavilion, plus in the south loop 336 there's a sports park that had some really nice trails. Also Lake Conroe, though some places you have to pay to park...

I'm in the woodlands, and northshore park is good, it has a playgroud and a lake with a lot of ducks and my friends have made some interesting pictures out of that. Another good location in the woodlands is east shore, also on a lake but has a little bridge, a tower, and a dragon in the water. Portifino in the woodlands has rude security and the water in the fountains is a sickly color.
