Item/Prop Commissioned: Adam Syringe for my Little Sister from Bioshock cosplay

My Experience: I contacted Chergnombyl for the commission less than a month ago. The previous commissioner who had been making my prop injured himself, and was unable to finish the prop.

With my convention being only a few weeks away, I desperately started searching for prop commissioners. I have worked with this commissioner before, so he was the first one I contacted. He asked me what my previous commissioner had charged me for the prop and I told him the amount. While Chergnombyl said that he normally would charge more for a prop like that, he agreed to make it for the amount the previously commissioner had charged. i was very GRATEFUL for this since i was on a strict budget.

He always contacted me with progress notes or pictures, asked for my preferences, and he even allowed me to do a payment plan. And here I am, only 2 or so weeks later, with the prop in hand. It is gorgeous and very well made (the attached photo is a photo the commissioner sent me, but the prop looks exactly like the pic).

Cons: NONE! (I'm currently commissioning him again )

Grade: A+

Character commissioned and series/video game (please include if this was the entire costume, just a jacket, prop, accessory, wig, etc.):
Character: Zero Jr. / III from Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward
Partial Costume
-Mask (face of character)

Links to picture(s) of your commissioned item: http://i.imgur.com/9Dq30oI.jpg

Timeline (how long your order took to process) :
Deadline: February 2014 (absolutely needed it by March 23, 2014)
-Contact: December 2013
-Received: March 15, 2014

Describe your Experience:
Very nice and accommodating and thorough. Relatively quick replies. After contact, she will take 50/50 payment, and then the other half once it is done and ready to be shipped.

However, she did go over time a little, which you kind of should prepare for, and I was, thank god.

Actual mask received was very nice and was better than I expected.

Pros: Reasonably priced, gives you alot of options. High quality product.

Cons: Might take her time / have alot on her hands / be busy

Comments: Recommend, but as always, always leave at least a month between your given deadline to the commissioner and your actual deadline.

Final Grade: A

Character commissioned and series/video game: Sansa Stark from Game of Thrones (Blackwater dress)
Links to picture(s) of your commissioned item: [1] [2]

Timeline:
  • February 12: Commissioner informs me that costume construction takes two weeks. Discussed and settled payment plans, measurements and shipping over the next three days. Deadline I gave her was May.
  • March 8: Emailed commissioner for any updates/progress pics. Received reply only on April 13.
  • April 15: Received email that dress is ready to be shipped.
  • April 20: Dress arrived safely.

Describe your Experience. Pros, Cons, Comments.

Friendly to communicate. Dress is of fantastic quality and fits well.

The downside is that she didn't deliver on her assurance that it'd be done in two weeks. I did have a long deadline but she didn't say anything about taking her time with it.

Timeline (how long your order took to process): Ordered: 4-25-2014 Shipped: 5-15-2014 Arrived: 5-19-2014
Describe your Experience. Pros, Cons, Comments. So I got the costume and wig at the time I am writing this. The costume is honestly terribly made and the ribbons were separated from the costume and to be put on by safety pins. It did not fit at all. The stockings were also cheaply made. The stitching was not very good and I could have done better myself. The wig was just fine and it was what I expected but the costume was very cheap and it did not come in time for my con even with expedited shipping. Also no returns.

My Experience: Contacted Chergnomebyl for first prop commission at beginning of February, communication was absolutely amazing, always responded within a few hours. My deadline was May 14th, and I received the claws on May 8th. Claws were excellently made, very comfy and fit perfectly- looked great too! Overall, a really great experience with one of my favorite commissioners!
Cons: Not a one

Name of Commissioner: uniquecreator (rebacollections)

Website/C.com gallery: http://www.cosplay.com/member/182032, https://www.facebook.com/reba.collections?fref=ts

Character commissioned and series/video game (please include if this was the entire costume, just a jacket, prop, accessory, wig, etc.): Kiyotaka Ishimaru from Dangan Ronpa, full costume (jacket, pants, and accessories)

Links to picture(s) of your commissioned item: http://i62.tinypic.com/k06pdu.jpg,
https://scontent-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hpho...27195345_n.jpg,

Timeline (how long your order took to process): Paid for this costume in March, received it the day before my con on May 23rd.

Describe your Experience. Pros, Cons, Comments: I absolutely love working with uniquecreator, so much so that I never plan to go to another commissioner unless I absolutely have to! She is extremely professional and business-like, and always eager and ready to take instructions and corrections. This is the first time my deadline was almost hit but she explained to me she had a wrench thrown into her plans and got a bit derailed, but the two of us were able to come together and work out the situation with express shipping that she even paid some of for me! The jacket fit like a glove whether I'm binded or not; the armband is soft and hand-painted and although a bit big even for my giant upper arm, it is canon that the armband is held on with a safety pin. And best of all, I only requested the jacket, medal, and armband, but she was kind enough to make me a pair of pants for it too! I was a huge hit at the photoshoot I pulled together since I was the only Ishimaru, and everyone loved the costume!

I never have a problem with her work, and I'm type of person who would prefer my commissioner send me pictures near the end instead of periodically because that takes time out of their schedule to do so when they could be working to finish. From my past experiences, I can say that uniquecreator is very true when it comes to replicating the designs which is why I don't worry about progress pictures so much. I understand for some people that is a big deal for a variety of reasons, but just be patient with her so that she can work and you'll be glad you did!

Final Grade: A++++

Character commissioned and series/video game (please include if this was the entire costume, just a jacket, prop, accessory, wig, etc.): Edea Lee from Bravely Default, full costume (dress, red top, gloves, pants, leg armor, and hair bow)

Links to picture(s) of your commissioned item: https://24.media.tumblr.com/f3f21183...cmrxo1_500.jpg (and with Bryce Papenbrooke (Tiz) no less!)

Timeline (how long your order took to process): Paid for this costume in late Feb./March, received it the day before my con on May 23rd.

As for Edea, again, everything fits perfectly! I love the oversized bow so that everyone could see it despite my huge head. The dress was so comfy as were the pants which I'm also glad they were pants and not leggings. The bow, gloves, and leg armor were made with pleather which gave them an awesome armor effect. The only downside to this costume is putting the leg armor on; it's extremely difficult to do it by myself and even my friends had trouble helping me. One even said that they appeared to differ in size and...my legs aren't different sizes. Still, once on, they were perfectly fine. The con itself was super hot and the pleather didn't really help but I live in Southern GA so it's nothing I wasn't already use to.

Name of Commissioner: rhatake

Website/C.com gallery: http://www.cosplay.com/member/314055, http://www.rhatake.com/

Character commissioned and series/video game (please include if this was the entire costume, just a jacket, prop, accessory, wig, etc.): Kiyotaka Ishimaru (Dangan Ronpa) and Edea Lee (Bravely Default), wigs

Links to picture(s) of your commissioned item: http://www.rhatake.com/uploads/8/9/7...16844_orig.jpg
http://www.rhatake.com/uploads/8/9/7...57/2457094.jpg

Timeline (how long your order took to process): Paid for both wigs sometime around Feb./March and received around a week before my deadline in May (I'm horrible at remembering dates)

Describe your Experience. Pros, Cons, Comments: I'll combine the reviews then list the final grade for either wig at the bottom. So let's start with Edea! Edea's hair is tricky as she has some interesting spikes. I like the liberty taken with the wig as there are only 3 spikes so upkeep of them won't be too horrendous. And personally, I really like it. I don't mind that not every spike was there. I also got numerous comments on the saw fringe and about how clever and creative and how much work must have gone into it. It's comfy to wear although in heat not so much but I live in Southern GA so I can't help it. It also detangles very well.

Final Grade: A+

As for Ishimaru, I also got complimented as it went well with the eyebrow makeup I did that day. The wig itself is extremely shaggy feeling and I'm assuming it's because of the faux spikes in the wig since again, this is another tricky haired character as his hair can appear differently depending on the angle (sometimes it's straight up and other times it appears more leaning back). I'm assuming since the wig is shaggy, that explains why it sheds. After putting it on for a few minutes I noticed tiny strands of the wig all over my hands and costume which wasn't great because Ishimaru's uniform is completely white all over but luckily I brought a lint roller with me just on the off chance someone in my room may need it. It's fairly comfy to wear although it does sit oddly on my head and that may be because I've never worn a wig in this type of style before so...it's hard to say. Touching my face wasn't an option that day as I might smear my makeup but I felt like I was constantly scratching and adjusting it; the saw fringe was also present on this wig which I really liked. Overall, I'm pleased with it and will definitely wear it again for my mastermind version.

Final Grade: A-

Character commissioned and series/video game: Hatsune Miku lat type full costume

Timeline: I paid the $100 down payment on the commission on October 6th for a costume intended for a con in October of the following year. Commissioner cut off contact before the final payment was made and I have not received the costume.

Describe your Experience. Pros, Cons, Comments: At first everything went fairly well. The commissioner gave fairly frequent updates. Although it generally to about a week to get a response, I wasn't too concerned due to the ample time frame between then and the con. I was first told it would be finished around the middle of November but do to set backs that estimated date of completion slowly got pushed back to the end of December. Around Christmas I was told it was ready to ship and that he would be sending pictures of the costume. After a few weeks without getting the pictures I sent an email asking what the hold up was. Since then I have repeatedly tried to contact the commissioner through email, Facebook and private messages on this site but have yet to receive a reply.

Final Grade: F

Pros: Great communication, great quality, ensured the costume arrived on time, and flexible payments
Con: Vague smoky smell due to work environment, but they gave me a great tip that worked to get rid of the smell! The smell was VERY FAINT, but noticeable since I don't smoke, but I could care less about it because the costume was OVERALL FANTASTIC!
