First things first, here are the pictures I took this weekend.
There aren't many, but you are welcome to tag yourself or use the pictures!!
Who did you cosplay as?:
Sadly, we didn't cosplay this year.
How many days did you attend for?:
All three (left around 4pm on Sunday) + Thursday for pre-reg pick up.
Most memorable event/moment:
Meeting Scott McNeil after the Reboot Memories panel on Sunday and all things it involved (him singing Amanda by Waylon Jennings to me, squishing and being a generally stupendous dude). Sitting next to Linda Ballantyne's husband at the Sailor Moon panel. Toby Procter. Horrors of Hentai panel *pours soap into eyes*. Maid Cafe, and our lovely maid Chiyou. :3
Most unexpected event/moment:
Really enjoying and getting into the Crazy Japanese Game show, thought it would just be something to do to pass the time but in the end we were screaming and shouting!
Oh and totally thought we were all going to die during the Final Fantasy photoshoot when the tire on that van popped and it came speeding towards the TCC grass! Totally unexpected, totally glad that there were 0 injuries.
Most awkward event/moment:
Hitting the elevator button and hearing a bunch of bros screaming and horseplaying as it approached my floor, walking into the elevator to see about 7 dudes, all wasted. I joked, "Everything okay?" and two of them said, "Now it is!" as the elevator doors closed. (Fortunately escaped ungroped.)
Meeting and squishing Scott McNeil for sure, and of course taking pictures of all the awesome cosplay and getting amped up to (hopefully) cosplay next year.
Least favourite event/moment:
The Nominoichi line fiasco. I have never gone and was really looking forward to going for the first time this year, but we were turned away twice. First, we arrived around 45 minutes before it was meant to open and told to "come back in 30 minutes", and then 30 minutes later being screamed at to "DISPERSE, DISPERSE, DISPERSE" while being waved at with a prop sword.
Nearing heat stroke on Sunday and being out of water and having all the water stations I went to being out of water T_T
That weird Saturday night max exodus situation before the Strangers With Candy gameshow. They kicked everybody out of the TCC but there was still programming going on and we had to wiggle through everybody exiting to get back in. Very weird.
I might be a jerk for saying this, but we waiting in line for an hour and a bit to get tickets to Yumi's graduation ceremony on Friday, and right as we were getting to the table a woman in a wheelchair and her helper pushed in (they hadn't been waiting) and because they had a barrier free access pass were looked after before us. When we got to the table, they only had two tickets left and we had a group of four, so we were unable to attend. I understand con needs to be accessible... but does accessible really=line cutting? Sorry if I'm an asshole I was just really disappointed. Oh well the maid cafe service we did attend was still fun and I would go again!
Of course, as usual, people stopping in the middle of the traffic flow to look at their phone/be annoying. Also the new dealers room, as everybody mentioned, had a lot of potential but there was too much unused space near industry tables and too much used space near the teeny weeny exit.
How much money did you spend?:
$350-$400 incl hotel, food, gas, reg.
Best cosplay you saw:
The lady with the huge folding pink wings
Aether Wing Kayle
Silver Queen (Magic the Gathering)
Regina from Once Upon A Time (dem details)
How many pictures did you take?:
About 70 cosplay photos, and 30 of my friends and I farting around. Not as many as I usually do!
How far did you travel in order to attend the con?:
From Kingston, so about 3 hours driving.
How sad/happy were you when the con ended?:
Totally sad. I legitimately cried, because I am a big baby, but also because I probably had sunstroke. I keep myself very busy and it was a very nice appreciated break. I just love it so much, despite any complaints.
What variety of food did you eat over the weekend?:
Not as much water as I should have, too many potato chips, clementines, cup noodles, hot dog, many onigiri and takoyako from the Ginko table, applesauce, granola bits, Quesada tacos, Subway sammich, extremely overpriced hamburger from Milestones, multivitamins, one gin and tonic.
What did you buy?:
CLAMP art book, Firefly Independents Flag, 2 Firefly t-shirts, 1 Harley Quinn t-shirt, USS Enterprise mug, "Totes Mah Goats" mug, paper crane earring, RandomFandom bag of cute (sort of stupid, had lanyard, button, shoelaces, erasers ._.), fox tail, Pichu plushie and button, Kraken necklace, a whole whack of bookmarks, Reboot Forever book.
Things you won't miss:
The couple of unhelpful, rude convention staff we experienced. Dem crowds. People sneezing on me.
And finally, what did you do when you got home from the convention?:
Got jumped on by my doggie and took her out for a walk, started unpacking but gave up, tried to watch the hockey game but realized that I was feeling deliriously ill, accepted con flu defeat, proceeded to fall under sleep of sleeps. zzzzzz
Any additional stuff you wanna say?:
It may seem from my complaints that I had a bad time, but all in all it was totally awesome and stupendous. I have gone to Anime North three times now, once in 2007, once in 2012 and again this year and really hope to attend again next year. It is like coming home. I really hope to cosplay again too!
