Seeing as how I don't have the skill, nor does anyone in my family, to make a costume that looks even remotely like the Ninja, I think I'm gonna try for Plissken sometime. I have most of the stuff I would need already anyhow. Well, 'cept for the facial hair. Though I could just say I shaved. And that would actually work too, because you can get a shaver as Raiden and give it to Snake when you meet, and then later in the game when you see Snake again, he'll be clean-shaven.

Thank you so much for the compliment. I really did do a lot on that costume.

I really enjoyed the padding, too. It gave it a little more life than what a flat vest would have. Thank you for clearing up the crotch straps. I was trying for a long time to figure out why Snake would have those, and eventually gave up figureing I didn't want to know.
I was planning to attend Fanime, but at the moment I'm having trouble with arranging transportation back and forth. My carpool decided two days ago that they're just going to stay at a hotel, leaving me without a ride. And I can't register for a hotel room since I'm only 16 and they require you to be 18 or over to check in. Bleh. I'll hopefully know for sure what the heck's going on by the 25th. At the very least, I'll get some pics with the helmet and a flashlight attached to the AKS74u prop (and the exclamation mark, which was scratched together last night), and I'll also at least have everything set for whenever I do manage to get out. Hopefully I can arrange something though.

Fisrt, let me help you out a little with the boots. You can head here for anything that the Russian Army uses, Russian Combat Gear. If the paints are long enough, just tuck them into lace-up boot. Thats actully how I wear my BSA pants enstead of hemming them.

As for the charater, I would love to do Raven. But alas, I am planning to do Fatman from MGS2 for next year (hopfuly). I need to head out to the gym and train for the "Worlds Strongest Man Compation" before I even tried Raven .

Russian Combat Gear doesn't sell boots. The guy in charge feels he couldn't get good enough boots at a decent price, so he doesn't stock them. Redsoldier has boots, but they're a different variant. I eventually ordered mine from TridentMilitary. They've got a lot of hard to find stuff, but they're pricier. I ended up getting Soviet-era standard issue boots. The 'terrible' comment was because, well, in real life, any russian soldier who wants to be able to march comfortably ditches them for sneakers or something else, and now I see why. >.< Four days in these boots is not going to be fun. On the bright side, at least I got a ride and room arranged. Now all that's left is to, pick up my helmet from the post office.

Got my helmet. The prop weapon and the exclamation point are refusing to cooperate with me, so not sure what to do with them. Guess just bring them along and see what I can manage to do with duct tape. Hopefully can make some better stuff over the summer. Maybe something that requires a little more effort than store bought parts eh?

Heh, it was funny- just last night I was searching my hd for another pic, and lo and behold, I found on of the better pics of Brian's Snake and my Meryl costume. It was taken waaayy back in 2000, at San Diego Comic Con.

If curious, take a look at my pics here, it's the newest one posted.

I always loved the guy who cosplayed the infamous Metal Gear Solid Box. Nothing like watching a box just roam around the place.

Guard: "Huh? What was that noise? Oh, just a box"

E-bay's a good place to start. Look for the 'Avon S-10' type gas mask. There's usually several up for auction at any given moment.
