That shoot turned out nicely. It really showcases all the detail, work, and craftsmanship that went into making the cosplays and their insane amounts of layers....

here's what i've been working on:

here i photoshopped a beard on myself

Okay. You're going to make a seriously awesome Blackwall. (Also LOL photoshop beard).

The weathering on that armor makes me want to weep, it's so amazing. I'm looking forward to seeing the whole product. Are you making his gambeson from scratch???

And thanks for the compliments on our shoot! I actually have the next set - I'm not sure if these are the last ones or not, though.

I'll have to post the rest in a second post. Too many!! But all photos were taken by TifaIA Cosplay. I'm so grouchy though - I lost the handguard on my armor in the middle of convention before this shoot, so I feel very self conscious about it.

That whole shoot looks great! I'm not sure which image I like the most out of them. They're all interestingly-composed and do a good job of showing the uh, character of the characters.

I am, actually. I had most of it done but I didn't make the front of it right so I have to redo it. I'm out of the suede I used to trim everything, though, so I'm debating on whether I order another piece (I don't think I can color match it, though) or just use this sueded uh moleskin stuff i have instead.

also here is a tutorial on how i make my armor look weathered:

warning this has bad werds in it

also here i finished this ham finally (i hadn't finished the bone before):

Has anyone worn your costumes to RenFaire or made Renaissance versions?

My partner and I did! We wore our Hawke and Cullen to our local faires, and they were a hit during Fantasy Weekend. I have an outfit for Hawke that is inspired by her finery, but it's a bodice instead of a long sleeved shirt.

I am slowly recovering from The Calling last week (sadly, I did not survive the Joining ritual ) and have taken a few days off from all things cosplay to get stuck into Elder Scrolls Online (Steam sale FTW!). I'm about two paragraphs into my write up of the weekend, but will drop by with a link once it's done (and more pics!) if anyone is interested.

I didn't have my Mahariel finished in time, (fingers crossed for Manchester MCM at the end of July) so I took a few different outfits for Lavellan. I didn't manage to get any pictures of the Friday's outfit, which was one of the Skyhold casual under-armour and scarf options added in by one of the patches, but I got some brilliant snaps on Saturday and Sunday. The venue was just incredible - a youth hostel in a 15th century Friary, and the convention just took over the whole building for three days.

Saturday was Superior Hunter armour Lavellan. My brother even managed to pull together a last minute Red Iron mercenary costume using bits of his Viking re-enactment kit and his Hiccup cosplay.

And Sunday was my crafted dragonscale Firewalker Prowler coat. I took my leatherworking gear with me in the hope that I'd finish putting the matching gauntlets together during quiet moments, only to find that I'd lost the pattern piece for the thumb But I think the brown ones work just as well. It's just a shame that my lanyard got hopelessly tangled in my scarf and refused to be hidden!

(More to come - I overloaded on pictures!)

I plan to cast the game-accurate buttons for this coat at some point and I finished staining and riveting a wider belt for it yesterday, so an upgrade is in the works.

We were split into four clans: Humans, Dwarves, Qunari and Elves. We (the Elves) won the Quizquisition but sadly came second overall for points won over the weekend (the Humans beat us in the hobby-horse jousting tourney and my brother, the Human, won Nug-Crufts (which was essentially going mad on a colouring-in nug with glue, colouring pencils, pipe cleaners and coloured card!) with his mage Hawke-nug, just beating out my halla-nug, "Ghilan'nug"). I did, however, win Varric's Apprentice, the writing competition, with a poem about the Dalish perspective on the Second Exalted March and got a trophy and a bag of chocolate coins.

It was a thoroughly brilliant weekend and we can't wait for The Calling 2017. My husband, who has no interest in cosplay beyond taking photos, has never played Dragon Age and who was basically dragged to the convention with great trepidation, loved it so much that I've been asked to make him a Sandal costume for next year!

I didn't have the best angle and had to leave early due to wanting to see Makoto Shinkai's Your Name (which was amazing omg) but I could post some pics from the Dragon Age meetup at AX if anyone's interested?

Yes, post away!

Sorry, I was away from a computer for the long weekend, working on a Halamshiral jacket and generally failing at fit. UGH.

Okay. Last round of the formal photos from our shoot. There were 31 in total! I'm in the process of getting the raws, for some "This is how I did the thing" posts. She took some nice costume reference shots.

Thanks for tolerating my spam. I shall go back to hiding now and admiring all of your work. <3

Just in case anyone (posting or lurking) as any plans to attend Mechacon in New Orleans at the end of this month, there will be a Dragon Age meetup on Saturday, July 30th at the fountain in the Hilton after the cosplay contest. We already have ~14 people coming but the more the merrier!
