It was definitely something else! Much smaller than the ones over here, but with a very nice atmosphere. It was extremely cool that the whole cosplay championship was streamed by picarto.tv, which not many websites do (I believe?) and it's a nice idea for those who can't attend the event themselves to be able to watch it online in decent quality.
Funny thing is, going to a convention overseas was also on my personal bucket list and I'm glad that I did it!
Hananami is even on the smaller side compared to other german conventions (although, I guess even our bigger ones would probably look cosy compared to a big US convention). We just don't have that many people.
I was fortunate enough to be able to go to BlizzCon '14 in Anaheim, CA. Thats been my first and only experiance of any foreign convention so far. I'd love to see a more "typical" US conventions, maybe Katsucon, just to see how it feels like with so many people and espcially a hotel as a location (none of the well known german conventions is held in a hotel).
