Question Midna (true form) hairtie help!

Hello all! I cosplayed Midna a couple of years ago and am trying to do it again this year with a few upgrades One thing I never got right last time that I want to figure out is her little hair tie that holds her ponytail in the front. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to make it. I did see one person who made it out of clay, as pictured here:

I could do that, but it seems like it would just slip right out? I don't see any mechanism to hold the hairtie in place. I feel like I'm missing something obvious here!

If anyone has ideas of how to make this accessory I would really appreciate it! Thanks all!

Use a small silicone rubber band, the kind used when one has lots of braids. The grip of the rubber band around the hair (real or wig) should be enough to hold it in place fairly well, plus makes doing the hair way easier. If there isn't enough grip, add a second rubber band to hold the dooodad in place.
