I just got my first Issue in the mail this week. (Picked it up when I got home).
I love this collection of Manga already. You have Slam Dunk, City Hunter, Fist of the Blue Sky and Bomber Girl, and I'm liking them all so far. Next week they add, The First President of Japan (the one I'm waiting for), not to metion others as time goes on. A lot of people are getting on it for being a weekly Manga, but at this point, I'm very happy to see someone taking a big risk like this, and I hope it pays off in the end for Raijin. I know I'll be on the ride, each and every week.

Yeah, I got copies of issue 0 both at ANXY and AnimeUSA.. I'm not really that into it, though. For me to like a manga I really have to like the series it comes from first; I don't just like random manga stuffed together. But one of the magazines had Mamotte Shugogetten! manga (it was called something hokey like Moon Guardians or something), and that was cool. ^____^

I just got issues one and two in the mail today, it's pretty good. It's better than the regular magazine I usually read.

I have about 5 of those. XD 4 from AXNY, one from my history teacher [he owns a comic book store, and the company sent them to him for free, and he gave me one]

Grappler Baki and Fist of The Blue Sky. Both of which are awesome. I'm not so excited about City Hunter, but I find that the overall package of Raijin is worth the price of admission, especially when the manga isn't in danger of being edited. It's in it's purest form, and the Sound Effects School section is a very welcome addition. So far, I've read both issues #0 and #1. Slam Dunk is in the first issue(YES! FIRST OFFICIAL AMERICAN TRANSLATION! HOO HAH!), but it only prints the first chapter. But still, it's SLAM DUNK. If you don't laugh out loud when you read the last two pages of the story, you have NO soul. Also in the first issue: Fist of The Blue Sky has two chapters in the book, but there's a reason: it's the premiere prequel of Fist of The North Star. It's set in 1935, in pre-war Shanghai, and tells the tale of the 62nd Hokuto Shinken successor, Kenshiro Kasumi. It looks good, and is a far cry from the garish designs found in the North Star series. Then there's City Hunter, also with two chapters. Blah blah. Next. Finally, in issue 1, is Rashomon Emi, a story that reeks of fanservice: blood and boobies. The story depicts 21st century Japan as a metropolis of violence. Yet the police force has no jurisdiction on these matters, or they simply don't care. Thus, bunty hunters have emerged, and one of them is Rashomon Emi, a femme fatale*contrived term bla bla* who tends to be a bit too violent. Anything and everything happens from there. As for the free issue 0, you get the first chapter from City Hunter and Fist of the Blue Sky. You also get the first chapter of Guardian Angel and Grappler Baki. Ah, well, I subscribing for Baki and Slam Dunk alone. |

I'm sorry, but I don't see myself investing 200 bucks a year in a weekly magazine subscription for one or two series I would want to read. Thanks but no.

I think Raijin is totally worth it! I mean you get new stuff every week, unlike most magizines which come monthly. Slam Dunk is great! So City Hunter and Baki. I like Guardian Angel Getten too, it's cute.

They really should make the mag a lot cheaper, though. Instead of pushing so much into one mag, just put 3-4 chapters MAX per issue. I think we can live with waiting longer for a series to finish in order to save our pocketbooks.

I got issue 0 from AUSA too I think... wasn't impressed. Fujin was kind of cool though, except for that it was 95% screaming "SUPPORT SAKURA TAISEN" and I'm not a Sakura Taisen person.
My big concern with it though, is if that would be the only form we get of those manga i.e. Mamotte Shugogetten (Guardian Angel now) because as much as I love Shugogetten, I'm not getting Rainjin just for that. *High Fives Sami way late* There need to be more Shugogetten fans... |
