Exclamation Pleats Darts?! How?!

Ok. I am making a EGL style dress and there are pleats/darts in the front and in the back. My mom is not helpful today soooo. Help me? What is the difference between pleats and darts and how do I sew both?

I've never made either, but for now, and future days when your mother can't help, I'd recommend buying a sewing book. I found a really neat one at Barnes & Noble that's really huge and filled with a lot of great instructions.

Pleats overlap each other while darts are ment to be pressed flat and smooth. Darts are traditionally used to tailor a garment in size at key points like the waist, bust and back. Pleats are like cheerleader skirts. The whole skirt consists of pleats.

Darts are basically a 'v', where you fold it in half and sew the two sides of the 'v' together to create shaping. They're used to shape skirts and pants over your hips, and also to help tops fit around your boobs. ^_^
