Okay, since you guys have been so helpful before, I've got more questions. (well, really, just one, but . . . whatever)

I've found the patterns I'll be using for my InuYasha costume, but what I need to know is how much fabric to buy (the patterns weren't too specific on this) and what type of fabric I should use. It shouldn't be too heavy, but still be able to hold some shape.

Any experience/war stories you guys have would help me a lot.

PS - If you wanna see my ears, check out my gallery.

Some sort of cotton blend would be nice, as long as the fabric isnt too heavy, stiff, or shiny. This one guy and I used peachskin for our Sesshomaru costumes; its really nice and lightweight, flows wonderfully, and isnt too expensive. Ive heard of people using fuzzy-like fabrics to simulate the fire rat fur for Inu, and the only good light/medium weight fabric I can think of would be flannel. The patterns should tell you how much fabric you need based on your measurements. The pattern I used asked for around 4-6 yds for Inu's top (with the modified sleeve pattern), and then if you want to go for more authentic looking pants (hakamas) a good 5-8 yds (I forgot exactly how much, somewhere around that though)

I agree with R1kku, please definitely avoid the shiny :: pet peeve::

I used 5 yards for my friends robe and 6 yards for the hakama, also if you have the brand of the patterna dn # i can try and see if i can decifer it or sumthing

Yeah, shiny fabrics on costumes that aren't shiny (and sometimes ones that are) bug me too.

It wasn't a commercial pattern, so I can't really give you the number. I should have expected that you'd give the measurements in Imperial ^^;. No problem. I can look up the Metric conversion easily enough.

Thanks. ^^

I have a question for anyone who might be able to help me out with Sango's Hiraikotsu ~_^ I've made the design, cut it out, and taped the whole thing for strength (picture in my gallery), and now I'm wondering what I can do to add more strength to it, as I don't want it to snap because someone runs into me. Right now, since its just foam and duct tape, its pretty delicate and dent-able. It is nice and lightweight though. I don't think I'm ready to use anything like fiberglass since I'm a beginner, and bondo is going to make it drop like a rock without adding much more strength. I'm hoping to get something that won't be too visible under the paint as well, not adding a bunch of lines in it or anything ^-^

Thanks to anyone that can help me!

hee hee right up my alley this one lol ^~...

I know how you feel about the fragile-ness about it (had those horrible worrys as well) what I did, was that i got some bone colored spray paint from home depot and did about two coats on it, the spray paint really does insure you a nice even coating. Try to get the spray paint that has the waterproof stuff in it, that will make is stiffer and keep is dry when is usually rains one day down there lol.

have you decided on what your doing for the straps and the tassel parts?

I haven't decided what I'm doing yet for the tassle/straps yet...right now my main priority is to paint it ^^; I want to be able to hold it from the strap for photos, so I want to make it strong too. Oh well, I'll get to it when I get to it ^_^

LOL! Thanks hon! (Yeah, I've posted in here a few times, but I kinda fell off the face of the earth lately XD) Still a little shocked from both weeks, I must say.

And *she* actually, but I'll take that as a compliment. XD

I was looking for ways to make Sango's armor, when I came upon the idea of foam finish. I've cut out my hiraikotsu and covered it with duct tape (to protect the foam if I decide to use something over it besides paint), and now I'm trying to find a way to strengthen it. Does anyone think foam finish would be okay to use on foam insulator, if it was covered with duct tape? Would it make it crack, or would it make it sturdier? Would it add a lot of weight? If anyone knows some answers, please tell me! ^-^
