Fullmetal Alchemist pattern translation?

I found these patterns and CosMode articles on bakachan.com, but I *can't* *read* *Japanese*! ::my life is paaaain!:: Is there anyone here who can translate these?

Links to the images:
Ed's coat:

Automail:

Also, any other Fullmetal Alchemist patterns would be appreciated, as would any suggestions for an Alphonse suit of armor not involving fiberglass. Thank you!

OK, 1. Is that a kit.
2. If so, where can I get one. Of the Automail
3. Can you send bigger pictures, and pic of the kit it self if it is a kit. I cann't translate the instructions, but I can interperite the pictures pretty well from my experence of model making.
Thx, StayFrosty

I'm sorry, I can't translate it. *curses her high school for not having Japanese as a language anymore* I've seen that image before from bakachan's website. At first I thought about using the "Beta fish" translator...but it can only translate text and not images -_-;;. I'm positive it must have been scanned from the "COSmo" Magazine in Japan. I went into the bookstore this winter break when I went to Japan and searched high and low...they didn't have any cosplay magazines. O_O *dies* Maybe if you e-mail bakachan, she/he can tell you what edition it was and you could buy it online *patterns are in the book*.But yeah, I've ordered a gothic lolita magazine from japan on how to make clothes...it seems pretty self explanitory but all the lines and darts made me so confused!! If you can't translate, just try and follow the pictures as best as you can. Sorry that I wasn't much help. ;_;

I can't read fluent Japanese, so I'm not going to risk a translation and get something wrong.

Just use the patterns she provides for the automail on the site. The links to each page tell you which part of the pattern is for which part of the automail. The pictures just provide a nice reference to show you how it should look once you put it together.

The jacket, just look at the measurements and enlarge it to human scale. You can use news print or something to draw it out to cut up and piece together before going at it for real.

Not a kit. Cosmode is a cosplay magazine and these are just scans of a few pages from one issue that had patterns for some costumes. The patterns aren't to scale, which is why they have measurements in inches labelled. The site is owned by someone else (another cosplay.com member), so asking Kagomechann for more scans won't do you any good cause I'm sure that if she owned the mag herself, she wouldn't be using links to bakachan.com

Not a kit...

The automail thing is definitely from CosMode, and it can be purchased at http://www.jlist.com (you can also buy a subscription that will be sent to the US - it is teh shizzy) I'm not sure what the armor in the reference photo was made of, but on the bakachan website, she reccomends using Amethyst Angel's fiberglass phobic method at http://amethyst-angel.com/armormaking.html

I know what you mean about the high school thing, KagomeChann (kind of). I'm in high school, but I just moved... 2 years ago? Yes, 2 years... but in one of the towns my parents were considering moving to, the local public high school offered Japanese, and of course, we didn't move there. *Damn you, Sheboygan!*

It is possible to request high-resolution image scans from bakachan.com at http://www.bakachan.com/cosplay/cosh...ns/request.htm

I actually went and made a version of the armor: http://images.cosplay.com/showphoto.php?photo=253355

I used the pattern at bakachan.com (I had to resize some of the pieces, as they weren't all to the same scale.) I used foam covered with styrene for most of the pieces (and for the fingers, I cut the patterns out of thin styrene and covered then with a vinyl adhesive.) I was able to get the gist of the project from looking at the pictures. (So I don't really feel you'd NEED a translation of the production notes to figure out how to put the arm together, although I'll admit, it would be nice...)

Okay. Speaking of patterns for the coat, does anyone know where I can get a pattern type thingy for the symbol on the back. Or just a really good reference picture of it or something.

Also at bakachan.com! I always thoroughly search sites that I find cool stuff on for other cool stuff. *flips through favorites* at: http://www.bakachan.com/csoplay/coshelp/prints/fma.htm You could also just take the image direct from the manga, as it's used for the endpage thing in every chapter.

As long as photoshop didn't squish this funny when I saved it as a JPEg, this is a properly scaled Ed symbol (I used it for a silk screen, worked very well)

http://www.kiwiflowers.net/cosplay/images/symbol.jpg

made it myself ^^ (only notable because I suck hardcore with photoshop)

[Edit: Oh, I guess someone already posted one. Oh well >.>; ]

here is a little help, since i don't know japanese

pic #1 of Ed's coat: the far right top has two patterns (top row), on right is the back of coat, and left is front (you need to cut two of each) rigth below the right one is the hood, to left would be the sleeve)
the #s are measurements, all in cm (so if you are using inches and your own measurements, it will be fine. to make sure just convert them)

pic #2 just shows how you put it together, you can do that your own way.
x.

Wow. This is actually very helpful Kiwi. Thank you.

Just for future reference to anyone, the one on Baka-chan's site is good, but the link to it is down. As in you can't click on it. So Kiwi's is very helpful. And it doesn't seem squished at all.

This thread totally owns!
With the links to Bakachan.com, it looks like making automail might NOT be impossible. Thanks bunches. ^^

...although, with as many people as want to be Ed this year, I might wait a while. @_@

I would like to see it but for some reason the pictures and the link is not working on my computer, but I think it would be a cool costume to make one day.
