To detract away from cosplay talk for a bit, who has seen the blow up over the Psychology Today article "Why Are Black Women Less Physically Attractive Than Other Women?".

I linked the article if you are interested. This almost moved me to tears, I feel ashamed to be apart of this scientific community...psychology is a credible field, but then articles like this are published and it's one giant leap back.

It's like just when things are seemingly alright, the rug is snatched from under us. Too many hits lately though, first Obama's birth certificate ordeal (Blacks can never be American--watch this video if you are interested) and now this.

I keep saying I need to quit the internet for a while, turns me into too much of an Angry Black Woman.

I think everyone has raged over that article earlier today on facebook. I mostly laughed at it. I dont need an article to tell me i'm unattractive roflmao.

In seriousness, stuff like that article is never going to go away. I moreso fault the publication that published it rather then the writer. The writer can be racist or have offensive thoughts/"studies"/etc but for a publication to actually publish an article that is more opinion then fact is ridiculous. They gave this writer the opportunity to present this and, obviously since we're talking about it, gain readers and attention.

And with that, i return to the sewing room. Deuces.

It said something like "black women consider themselves to be more attractive than other races"
If this statement is true then it just means we have high self esteem and don't need an article to tell us how we look.
My vanilla boyfriend would beg to differ with that author.

And about that article, all I can say is "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder". To try to classify a whole race as "unattractive" is silly.

@LoyanteKitty: Latino/a is not considered a race anymore so much as an ethnicity...weird, I know. Race is a social construct anyway, so why this guy chose to pit races against each other is beyond me.

I am pretty much over it now, like Jessi said though, how it got through to being published makes no sense. Just wondering what others though about the article is all. I am not concerned for me and other black women I know really, it's other people who take things like this to heart. Oh well I guess!

Back to workin' on cosplay. I hate sleeves damnit and I hate that this whole thing is made out of fleece...oh the things you will do to match your group :/

I hear you! Sleeves and cuffs are not my friends! XD Almost ready for Anime Central which starts tomorrow! Just need to make the sash and inner shirt for my daughter's Hitsugaya cosplay.

Exactly. Many of us are or have been in interracial relationships and that disproves that little article anyway. It proves that attractiveness is about a person's personal preference (holy alliteration) and has nothing to do with "science". Personally, guys of other races make me feel more beautiful, but that's another conversation entirely

Just found out I will be at Animazement for the entire weeekend this year thanks to some incredible friends.
It is amazing the people we meet through this hobby. Not everyone is about drama and negativity. There are some wonderful people out there that becomes life long, true friends. ^_^ so I better unpack my Juri and Litchi costume since I guess they're going to the con too.

Dressform Owners: thinking of getting one in about three weeks (yay coupon!) I know nothing about choosing one though so does anyone have suggestions? I certainly want an adjustable one.
