Freya from Chobits! ~ Please critique me!
Okays, first of all, I didn`t do this costume to just be Freya, I did this with accuracy, I hope! I worked very hard to try and make it accurate! Some notes....
Buckles: There are 2 on each upper arm, 2 on each detatchable lower arm piece, 2 on the neck, and 1 on each side of the skirt. Studs: Hand pierced, hand painted studs all along skirt, pointies, and sleeves. The skirt is detatchable, like the real thing. PICTURES CAN BE FOUND IN MY GALLERY IN MY FREYA ALBUM!!! Please be a vicious as possible!! ^_^ I wanna make it as good as I can!! Reference! Thank you guys!!! ^_^

You might want to make the skirt a little fuller...it seems to be a bit too straight down. If you decide to do this you can get a petticoat later on to give it a little extra poof. ^_^
I love that you painted the bat wings on your back too! A lot of people don't even bother (I didn't..mainly because I don't know anyone that could do it that well...LOL) Other than the poofy skirt I think you did a very excellent job! ^_^

We agree that the grey underskirt should be more full and pleated a bit more. Just looks kinda too limp.
Ya need the little buckles on your legs. The circle thingies that go around the top. Hope you know what we're talking about... <_<;; The deepness and the texture of the fabrick makes it very hard to see the details like the buckles on the arms and such. We've never been a fan of shiny satin materials to begin with. We just don't think that they can be used for very many things. The fabric makes the details invisible. We understand that Chobits style is supposed to be a bit shiny, but you really can't see the details... They're kind of absorbed... Sorry... Maybe it's the lighting, but we really think that it's the fabric. Otherwise the construction is very nice. Just a personal note: maybe you could work on your facial expressions and posing a bit. Hope we helped you.

I agree with the fullness of the skirt. I assumed that Freya's was actually box pleats, not straight, based on the image. At least, on the front part, anyway. As well, this part of the skirt looks like it has a lighter edge - either some gray piping or else it's topstitching. The same trim/line is on her sleeve-cuffs, so I assume it's actually piping of some kind. I can't tell if you have any, unfortunately, but I thought I'd point it out.
Unfortunately the studs and buckles don't show up - I can't see them in any of the photos. Perhaps it's because most of the pics were a bit dark. Also, I think the grey gauzy stuff is hanging too low, but it could be b/c your photog is higher than you are. I wonder if it could go shorter? But if it was a modesty decision, don't worry about it. Just pointing it out. Overall construction looks good, as mentioned. And I love how you did the back of it accurately. ^^ Bonus points! First accurate one I've seen!

Maybe use a sheer black fabric for the underskirt rather than the silver/ white you used. It looks like it's supposed to be transparent black or a VERY dark gray. I would suggest getting the stiffer bridal-type chiffon instead of nylon net because it will poof out more and, if you get enough layers underneath, give your outerskirt the lift it needs.

O_o... wait... did you color the wings on with a marker? Gosh... I hope you were able to scrub it off! >_<
Anyway, I noticed in the refrence you provided that on the knee highs, they go up to the knee, with a ring above it, so there's skin between. It looks kinda like to me you put the rings right at the top of the knee highs. Just my observation. But overall, I really like it! You should get a friend to do the Chii version. That'd be pretty cool.

First off this is the front of her dress. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...hii10-ref1.jpg
I feel bad laying in but I guess if you want it. I agree with the puffiness of the skirt. The skirt needs to be puffier. Petticoat does seem to hang down kind of far in the back. The petticoat has a pleated look to it too. You don't actually have to pleat it but iron it out as if it were pleated and then let it hang like normal. It leaves the creases but you don't have to pleat it. Then notch it. What kind of fabric did you use for the petticoat? The belts seem a little lifeless. On my purple freya dress I used real belts from the children's department at walmart. If you can't find black I used colored belts, then used permanent marker on them and to remove the metallic shine marker leaves used shoe polish over that. That way they're all identicle and durable. Punch holes in using a leather puncher. You might want to interface the scalloped butt fluffles. Hers stick up very high in the image and jut out horizontally almost. She also tends to wear heels/heeled boots. Not so punk/goth. Mid to high heels a lot of the times thigh high boots. The purple version I did had mary jane style platform heels. Her hair is super thick and long. I'd suggest buying the long ass Godiva wig from the C.c store and cutting bangs into it. Thats what I did. The bangs came out super full and rounded like hers. Cut the layers in the front shorter than the rest of the wig as well. I think thats all I noticed. o.o; I have a gazillion Chobits pictures as refence since I collected them when I was deciding what to make myself. Almost made that one actually.

x.x
Okays:
I actually DO have the garters made an` stuff, just not in this picture. x.x Sorreh. I guess the fabric is a little shiny but, it is also very nice and was orginally made to be a dress for a dance. ^.^; The wig....Ahah.....o.o;;; I apparently have NO wig skills at all! I bought one and....well...it didn`t make it. ._.;;; I`d like to get a high quality one eventually. The skirt poofyness. I am going to remake the underskirt. I don`t like the meshy stuff much either. I was going to get this reallt nice dark grey transparent stuff but, it was made rushing and I didn`t wanna hem it `cuz I am lazy. x.x And the front of the dress....I found that picture about halfway through construction and it really bothered me. I try and make my costume`s as accurate as possible....however, being 13 years old...and having a protective Mother, there is no doubt in my mind she would have never let me wear it. T_T I will also work on posing. I tend to be a bouncy hyper person. >.<; Thank you all very much for your imput!!!

Oops, I missed some!
I plan on getting some good shoes from electrique boutique soon. My boots are falling apart anyways. T_T About the buckles, all of the straps the buckles attatch to are hard made from pleather. . .o.o; I got the buckles off belts from thrift stores. So, Maybe I should add a little dunno...a layer of shiny paint to make them stand out more?

I have planned to do the white dress, and one of my friend, the black one, and so, we have thought of how we can make the dress...
first, i just want to say that the skirt is more puffy, just add a petticoat and it will be alright second, her train his a little longer than yours, we think that it arrives at the back of the knees and it is a little puffy, so with your satin fabric, you can have this puffyness if you use a larger piece of fabric and then gather it ![]() third, we can't see ths stud you have placed on the skirt and top, maybe if you painted them in a light silver, it will be more vibrant? hope that my post will help! I love this freya dress and, it is one of the most difficult to make, so, thumbs up the back of your dress is really accurate and it look like the real one! |

OK, I think most has been said but I try to sum up what I think could be improved ^^;
- I personally think the front of the top is ok like it is, I did it like this myself. And you can always say it matches Eldas top better like this ;p - The socks should be overknees, but that's already been mentioned ^^ - The skirt should be pleated - I too think the shoes don't match perfectly, but they're shoeless on the orignal model kit. So there is no real "right" one after all ^^; - Ok, and this is my ultimate small detail I nearly never see anyone do it: The headpiece has a small white cross on it. ^^; I know it's something nearly no one will notice but I think it would be really nice to bead it on it or buy a small cross pendant for a necklace and use that. ^^ |

When I was thinking about making it I figured I'd make the slit not quite so wide and use the skin colored material alot of the yuna x-2 cosplayers use in the middle. I'm not too keen on the slit down the front either but if you're striving for accuracy. I thought you looked too young to wear it like that so I didn't want to push it.

Actually I have a real probelm with the top! Does anyone know if that resin sculpture thing is official CLAMP/Chobits merchandise? Because I used this pin as a reference as well and her shirt is closed!
Freya Pin You guys really think the skirt is pleated?? I`ve never seen anyone do it like that. o.o; I`m probly wrong. ^.^;;; It does look a little pleated. T_T *Slams head into desk. * I guess it`s open to interpretation, maybe. o.o;

I think the skirt is pleated, too. If you are rushing and don't want to bother doing a full hem at the bottom, use material that is semi-sheer and double it over. I think it might look nicer anyways. Then, I agree about the box pleats. What you do is basically start one knife pleat going one direction, then you alternate which direction you fold. So it has twice the ruffle size. That was what I did on Juri. It works extremely well for the really big ruffles.
For materials, I always thought it would be pleather myself. The nice non-shiny stuff, but maybe a little shine. It seemed more bondage-like to me, and that is like Freya. However, I like the way your skirt came out. Maybe if you made the buckles distinctly matte in appearance you would be able to see them better. I don't know how easy that would be to do, though. |

There are some pleather commponents to the costume, the belts and arm gauntlets are made of that. ^.^ Howeverm I really love the crepe. x.x Es so pretty! But, it`s very flowy and not icky satiny.
