A question for you Chun Li cos-players

Greetings all,

I have another question for you Chun Li cos-players... why do 99% of you wear high healed and/or platform boots?

Sorry to be a stick in the mud but Chun Li doesn't wear them that I remember.

Thanks,
Joe

Heehee, ^^ The only reason I like them cause it makes the outfit look better I think. I'm a huge Chun Li Fan, but I still like the look with the high heeled platforms. Chun Li's costume is very pretty and "elegant" and I think just plain white flat bottom commando boots kinda of look strange with all the satin/broque/vynil/etc. My two cents!

they wear high heels and/or platforms because it does more damage when they kick drooling and groping fanboys. Seems quite logical to me

Hehe. I bought a pair of knee high lace up white vinyl heels for mine... why? I dunno... everyone else does High heels always make you look taller and slimmer... although I've found it impossible to ninja anyone in those things. I had to end up making an alternate pair for walking in... I dunno though, I think it's just the sex-appeal really.

Okay I know the perfect answer, Chun- Li is sexy right? well she wears those lace-up boots, and we as sexy girl cosplayers think "how can i make this more sexy?" so we take lace-up boots=high heeled boots. They look way sexier and they just kick butt!!! You don't have to agree, thats just the way i see it. You have to agree, they do add that bit of sex.

It's not about making the cosplay sexier. Chun Li is the stroungest woman in the world she does not need high heels to look sexy. Really what it comes down to is that most girls will find the high heel shoes alot sooner then the flat shoes. Also they hope that the high heel shoes will cover for any short comings they may have. After all most people will notice the shoes rather then the hair puffs.
I did the heels one year only because I couldn't get the flat shoes in enough time. But I could run in mine and hold the kicks, so it worked out ok. But as soon as I could I got the flat shoes. I like them better and find them to be way sexier then those high heels. There is one good thing about the heels though they do make you taller! ^ ^

I realize it's been many years, but Pockets01 already revived this thread, and since girls cosplaying Chun Li STILL have those problems, I figured this info might be useful.

A) Yes, you can EASILY find those boots. Just go to a MARTIAL ARTS strore, not a regular clothing/shoe store. They're BOXING BOOTS. Those boots are part of her fighting tournament outfit - of course they'd be dedicated fighting gear...

Example:

B) I agree with the OP... high heels ruin the entire cosplay. I'm sorry, but that's just NOT Chun Li. Chunny is a fighter, she's always been wearing those white boxing boots. Now if you give her high heels with that outfit, you make her look not like Chun Li the martial artist, but like some japanese 'actress' from a cosplay porn flick.

Seriously, do some more research on the character. High heeled boots are a no-go...

Finding white boots is not so easy. I took what I had and made it white.
Trust me, I ran everywhere in my local area and came up with nothing.

My boots have a little heel in the back. If I was fighting, they wouldn't knock me off balance. They are a thick enough to be walking normal and no where near platforms.

No way could I do a small thin heel, even if a cosplay did call for it. I'm just not that type of girl.

to be accurate yes everyone would wear A the wrestleing boot or martial arts boots. i am doing a black version and to stay true to the character i am wearing flat shoes. the heel is just sex apeal when its over done but for the people with small heels and not stelettoes it may have been a crunch for time . the flat shoes are fairly easy to find. i really frown upon inaccuracy and expecially when ppl alter her coat tails so they sit on their butts. that is also very inaccurat.
the original chunlis coattails go down to almost the back of her knees and cover most of the butt except the middle. even the newer version goes past her butt. so really the whole shoe thing is prefrence and i think platform shoes look kinda rediculous.
its my opinion im not trying to make anyone feel anyway. as long as your satisfied with your cosplay but i would pick accuracy over the wrong idea of attention anyday

Agreement!I nearly bought a pair of white wrestling boots years ago jsut so if ever I made Chun-Li,I'd have them.

Gripe #2-Why does everyone make her outfit our of SATIN?(or similar shiny, tacky looking stuff)I don't recall her dress looking particularly shiny, and it always just looks-Weird to me.

Returning to whine because Chun Li is one of my idol characters(little chinese girl with crazy muscles, resmblance and awesomeness.so I feel the need to defend her greatness.)

Looked through all 15-16 pages of people here who've done Chun Li outfits.A handfull of those DIDN'T use shiny material, and even of those quite a few seem to not know how long her dress is.A lot of people make it too short.I'm starting to think they all do it on purpose to be 'teh sexeh'.
I found one person who is currently working on their Chun Li.All they had was a picture of white wrestling/boxing/martial arts boots.I have hope.

I think shiny is the best choice. When I look at all of the pictures they have so many different tones to them. Also shiny is a lot cheaper then to buy what I really wanted which wasn't shiny but $15.00 a yard. I can't afford that. I think that when people use a cheap cotton that it does look cheap. I also hate when people use high heels because she def does not wear them. There are lots of different versions of Chun Li with different lengths and shades of blue so really the length is pretty open depending on which version you are doing. I am working on a Chun Li now and I am planning on buying the correct shoes but I am using shiny because it is cheap and better then that crappy broadcloth that everyone likes to use.

I'm planning a Chun-Li costume for Halloween, and the shoes have me in this same perdicament. I was thinking about buying those super-high-top Converse sneakers:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tab%3DWatching

Then again, I am short (5'3") and heels would make me more substantial. I'm afraid if I get the sneakers I'll end up looking too short and stocky for Chun Li, who is a very formiddable woman in stature.

What should I choose?

I am planning on having the longer coat tails and using a matte fabric ^___^

About the whole shininess issue - Her 'dress' is in fact a modified qipao. These are very often made out of shiny satin.

Heck, I have a proper, OFFICIAL Chun Li figurine where her qipao have been painted with a metallic blue paint (like a car!). Also, if you look at her original set of game sprites (SF2, SSF2, SSF2T and such), the way they are colored and shaded is highly suggestive of a nice satin sheen.

I believe a subtle satin shine is the correct, accurate way to go.
