I'm planning on cosplaying as Hijikata from Peace Maker for AX2005. I have a few questions, though.
How is he usually armed? Most of the characters seem to carry 2 swords (Katana and Wakizashi, I believe), but I'm not sure about Hijikata. I skimmed though a couple episodes (I've already watched the whole series, of course. I just dont have time to watch through it again right now) and only saw him carrying a katana. But I diddnt scan through it all, so that might not be all he used.
Also, does anyone know Anime Expo's (The big annual one in anaheim) stance on bringing weapons? I have a katana, which would be the most convenient route for me, but I doubt they allow actual metal weapons. Are they allowed if they are somehow secured into the sheath so they cannot be taken out (Temporarily of course, I dont want to ruin my katana)? If so, how would I go about that? And if not, does anyone have any suggestions about what to use instead? I was thinking about just making a handle with no blade and securing it to the sheath so it gave the appearance of a weapon without actually having a blade.
My hair is nowhere near long enough to cosplay Hijikata unless I wear a wig. My only problem with that is most cosplay wigs I see look horrible. Hijikata doesn't have very extravagant hair, but I could easily see myself screwing it up without decent instruction. Does anyone have any tips?
Anyway, this will be my first cosplay project. I picked it because it seems fairly simple, plus my girlfriend wants to go to AX2005 with a Peace Maker theme (She is going to be Okita. Yeah, I know, Okita is a guy. But he's girly enough to be cosplayed by a girl without it being too wierd

). He's my second favorite PM character (First is Okita, of course :-D), so I figured he would be a good choice.
Since this is my first project, I would really appreciate any tips anyone could give me. And I would also really appreciate some good source pics of Hijikata, Okita and Susumu.
Also, I'm sorry that I come off as such a newbie, but it's hard not to when you *are* a newbie

Also, here are some pictures of Hijikata in case people aren't too familar with him.
Any and all suggestions/comments will be appreciated a lot
