FMA Maes Hughes and Edward Elric

Hi guys, it's been a while since I've been on. A friend of mine and I are planning on doing a coordinated cosplay at Comic Convention International this year in San Diego, but unfortunately we aren't very good at making the costumes.

I plan to go as Edward Elric while he plans on going as Maes Hughes, and we've obtained a few items for it, but some key items we need alot of help on, and I was hoping some of the amazing people here could help us with maybe some sites to buy the outfits from, or better yet, if someone here could make the outfits for us to buy from.

We need the main uniform that Hughes wears, as well as the Main red Jacket that Edward wears. I've already got a wig lined up for my hair, as well as the watch and a neat idea for the arm. I'm not sure how I'm going to work out the outfit that Edward wears underneath the red jacket, and if anyone has any advice on that, it would be greatly appreciated, as always.

Until then, I say thanks in advance for me and my friend. (And I promise pictures when we do the cosplay)

Well if you are looking for a red jacket or the uniform Ebay had a few jackets that I know of floating around.

You can also check out the Classifieds section (link is near the top of the page) and search through it. I've seen several FMA uniforms, but I don't recall who for. You may have to change the epaulettes if you can't find uniforms for Hughes (the shoulder bars). I've also seen a few ads for Edward's jacket. Try to find one that uses a nicer weight material (not light broadcloth), and check out if it's lined and how the symbol is put on (is it crisp and clear?)

You can also find a list of commissioners at www.dokoni.net. You can also search google for 'costume commissioner' or something similar. Not everyone is listed on dokoni. Try to find someone who has made a uniform before, as they will be experienced with the construction.

I believe some Japanese cosplay stores also carried the uniforms; COSPA, Mandrake, possibly more. I don't have the Mandrake URL right now, but perhaps searching the forums for "Japanese cosplay store" or something will help. Or the ever-trusty google.

Ebay has already been mentioned.

You could use a service such as Rinka or Celga to buy things from Japanese websites that don't usually ship overseas (they're an intermediary, basically, and they do charge a fee).

You could aslo search Yahoo Japan Auctions, but it helps to be able to search in Japanese (search the internet for instructions on how to make your computer enter Japanese font or copy and paste the necessary Japanese from a website).

If you're looking for general uniform details, check out the link in my siggy.

As for Edward's outfit, which one are you thinking of doing? The first one, I assume, with the little metal bar on the jacket with the white trim? Shouldn't be too difficult. You can probably buy pants and boots and the like. Making the distinctive belt might be the hardest. As for the top, perhaps altering a shirt (e.g. find a dress-shirt like shirt and cut off the collar and add white bias tape to the edges or something)?

Good luck!

Thanks for the information. Hopefully we'll have the costumes looking great in time for Comic Con.
