Hi everyone,

First, a brief introduction: My name is Marisa Price and I'm the
Cosplay Coordinator for Anime Expo. We are working very diligently on
our events for this year and we plan on hosting three unique venues
for cosplay: the Masquerade Contest, the Mini-Masquerade, and our J-
Rock Event. My personal goal as the Cosplay Coordinator for Anime
Expo is to build a very strong foundation and a standardized system
for Anime Expo cosplay events to use now and in the future. However,
someday I plan to retire. (^_^)

Keeping that in mind, I would like to train a few new individuals who
are interested in learning about cosplay events at Anime Expo with
the possibility of taking over the reigns in the future. I would like
to get those staff members on my staff this year (2003) so that you
can learn all you need to know over the next couple of years.

Please keep in mind that this is -not- an easy job and it requires a
lot of dedication and (if you like it ^_^ ) a multi-year commitment.
Last year (at Anime Expo 2002) most of my staff worked 20-hour days.
We still have anxiety nightmares about it! 2002 was an unusual year
(my staff & I were in charge of 14 events total, not just the cosplay
events). Fortunately this year (2003) will be a bit easier for
Cosplay staff (we are only running 3 events). I just wanted to warn
you of our "year of woe" so that you know the dedication level of the
cosplay staffers: when our staff needed to come through they did.
This is the type of staff we are looking for.

What are the basic requirements of being Cosplay Events staff?
1. You must be 18 or over.

2. You must be interested in (or have knowledge of) cosplay, but you
are not required to be a cosplayer.

3. As Anime Expo staff, you are required to work at least 8 hours per
day. However, due to the nature of the cosplay events, it is easier
for me to say that you will be required to work a minimum of 32 hours
during the convention (July 3 - 6, 2003). I can't give you a per-day
amount, because it depends on which event(s) you are assigned to.
Usually you have (many) more hours on the day of your assigned event
(s) and less hours on the other days.

4. As Anime Expo staff you will receive standard staff benefits
(contact me for details).

5. You must have a positive attitude and want to learn all you can
about cosplay events at Anime Expo. You will also need to be able to
work well with other staffers.

6. We need dedicated staffers who are willing to do whatever it takes
to make the cosplay events at Anime Expo the best they can be.

7. We are also looking for those who are interested in learning what
it takes to run cosplay events at Anime Expo.

8. You must be able to commit to all 4 days of the convention (July
3, 4, 5, 6).

What would my responsibilities be as Cosplay Events staff?
1. Work at the Masquerade and Mini-Masquerade Registration desk in
rotating shifts on Thursday (July 3), Friday (July 4), and Saturday
(July 5).

2. Keep the Masquerade Judges happy (providing them with water, food,
judging materials, etc.)

3. Crowd control (as assigned) at the events or at the registration

4. Post flyers pertaining to cosplay events.

5. Run errands (to Kinko's, for food, etc., as needed).

6. Cleanup after events.

9. Attend the Masquerade Feedback session on Sunday (July 6).

8. Staff one (or more, as assigned) major events (i.e., Masquerade,
Mini-Masquerade, and/or J-Rock Events). Please note that staffing a
major event does not mean that you get to sit out in the audience or
even in the aisle during the Masquerade. We need our staffers to be
working backstage with the cosplayers and with other cosplay staff.
Your job (as assigned) would be to ferry cosplayers from the waiting
area to the stage, escort the cosplayers to the photo areas and then
escort them to their seats, stage ninja work (sweeping the stage
after a messy entry, picking up fallen items, setting items on the
stage as needed), run errands, etc.

By the way: please have all applications in by January 31. I'll let everyone know the first week of February about our final decisions. You will also probably get some e-mail from us with additional questions
