If you have the ability to buy the Platinum box, go with that. The Perfect collection has been released several times in the same packaging with different video and audio and it's difficult to make sure that you're getting the best version. The Platinum version uses the best of those; I own the Perfect and have seen the Platinum and there is a significantly noticible difference in color quality.

Just remember that you haven't seen all of Eva until you've seen End of Eva, which isn't included in either.

Platinum looks the best, Im not talking about the outside of the box. It's probably better to get the up-to-date version even though they changed the voices, the color and the sound is going to be better, more expensive but better.

Perfect has the directors cut stuff, which adds a lot to the material. Time wise it's not a lot of new stuff but it happens at critical moments and really makes the series make more sense (for example,

SPOILER: (highlight to read)
in the episode where Rei II dies, the angel actually started to merge with Eva 01 as well
).

-ZOMG! SPOILERS!

-I haven't seen the platinum series, but i heard it's good. If you want the extra material, you can buy the 2 director's cut DVD's seperately.

The Platinum DVD release for those who don't know is basically the US version of Gainax's Region 2 release where they went and did significant cleanup, color correction, and more to the original negatives; as well as mixing the 'scene jump' effect that plagued the original version. It's been released in two versions by ADV, the original dvd single release and then the cheap boxset version (which I believe doesn't have the same extras or something) If you're not sure which version to get, checkout some reviews at Anime on DVD to make sure.

I've got most of the Platinum series already, and was happy to see that the 2 director's cut epiodes were included on the DVDs along with the originals.

I'm definitely going to be getting the Platinum version when I buy Evangelion on DVD. The older release is kinda rough in comparison, and hey... it saves shelf space if you buy that thinpak. XD

personally, I'd say get whichever one is cheaper. NGE and EGE were total letdowns for me; I used to be a huge fan, but the ending and characters just ruined the whole thing for me, particularly End of Evangelion.

I rather liked it, but then again, I'm a sucker for copious amounts of Judeo-Christian-Pagan Symbology (The Sephirothicum System is the COOLEST thing ever), massive amounts of gratuitous violence (tasteful, of coruse), end-of-the-world storylines, and sad, wtf endings.

And hey, let's not forget Shinji doing a number 3. "so fucked up" indeed

i couldn't tell whether that was sarcastic or not...

but there's barely any gratuitous violence. If you want violence then go watch Ninja Scroll.

Well, End of Evangelion was an alternate ending.. not the definitive true ending. It was made because the fans wanted more violence and giant robots rather than the (in my opinion, awesome) psychological ending of the series.

Death&Rebirth was the most annoying psychological ending DX. At least RahXephon's ending, which wasn't that different from NGE, wasn't as mind-bending and distasteful in my opinion.

Actually I just hated Shinji. Everything was okay; I just hated Shinji.
