Yaoi

There's like a sudden explosion of yaoi going on. Some of it is 13+ and other's are 16+. Anyone know why there's so much yaoi out? I'm not saying it's bad, I realy like yaoi actually.

It could be because the companies have caught on, that there is a
big market for yaoi and youri right now.
Just think that they just brought out Shojo Beat in North America

I've noticed alot of Shone Ai manga released lately, it seems like everywhere I turn there's 2 effeminate looking bishonen holding each other.

I say great, we're starting to get a wider variety in manga that gets released in the US, although alot of the titles I find aren't very interesting, both shonen-ai/yaoi or other.

Shounen Ai and Yaoi are two VERY different things.

To my knowledge VERY little actual Yaoi has been released here in the United States. Boku No Sexual Harrasment and Legend of Blue Wolves are the only two I can think of off of the top of my head

There is, however, a ton of Shounen Ai coming out. I first noticed it when I found both FAKE and Gravitation being sold at BnN

For whatever reason.... the North American market has chosen to advertise any "boy's love" manga as Yaoi... no matter how graphic or ungraphic the content is. I suppose it was a choice to prevent confusion for people who just want to read manga from that genre. I didn't learn the correct terms for the different types of "boys' love" manga until long after they started behing released.

Actually, TokyoPop does indeed identify FAKE and Gravitation as Shounen Ai, not Yaoi. In fact, I remember an issue of FAKE having an editor's note clarifying the difference between the two in it's first volume.

ah, well there you go

Digital manga publishing however chooses to call all of thier "boys love" manga yaoi, however most of it is certainly not.

cest la vie... marketing choices of two different companies

don't get to off topic, the mods will close it. I'm not sure it's happening often now but it use to happen back in the day.
