CosWorx Research - Fabric
We are considering adding fabric to the store. We are already planning on adding all of the crepe and satin we have in stock (20-30 colors of each). However, if the fabric sells well, then we would be interested in growing the fabric portion of the store to help supply cosplayers who may not be lucky enough to live near a fabric district or a cheap enough retail outlet.
Our goal is to provide the fabric at a low enough cost to easily beat JoAnn's (or similar stores) prices. Anyway, it would be a pretty big monetary investment so I'm asking for opinions here on the types of fabrics you'd like to see in the store if we were to offer them. Any type of fabric is fine, from cheap to expensive - we just need a good gauge on what you (the customers) would like to be able to have available. Go ahead and list things even if others list them - the items with the most interest will be noted and possibly voted upon. Thanks! |

Stretch PVC
Pleather that's not really thick or really grainy? Satin (silk is expensive >.<) brocades! It's a large topic, but if you ever have any free time, there are many posts of people looking for certain fabrics... Maybe take a few of those into account? http://forums.cosplay.com/showthread.php?t=62338 (And is it possible to sticky the darn thread?) ~Ari-chan

Different types of interfacing would be a good idea. Most costumes seem to have (or would look better if they used) interfacing.
I think lace/ruffle trim would sell well too. I always seem to be looking for specialty fabrics, like sequined fabric, two toned fabric, pleated fabric, ect., but can hardly ever find anything in my area, so I'd be interested in seeing those as well. Do you think you'll be adding sewing notions too? |

Shirting material would be nice... I don't know any specific names but it would help out since Joanns is always out of certain colors...

Ribknit wide enough to successfully accomplish Rinoa's duster. Then I can stop reading eighty thousand threads on where to find the fabric. :3
Also, 45/60" wide fake fur would be nice (like in white, brown, gray, tan, etc) for people who need longer lengths of faux fur (that aren't obscene party colors) for costumes without paying 20$/yard for it. |

I strongly encourage selling 60" [or more, if possible] widths of the basic staples. In my personal experience, I've had trouble finding fabric wide enough to easily make full-circle trains out of, and so will sometimes have to go with the 45" and make a bunch of panels. So my vote is for 60" widths of basic things like casa satin, bottomweight, and twills.
I also second the ribknit. One of the reasons I've never attempted Rinoa is because I just can't find the right fabric for that duster. ^____^; I believe, if memory serves me, that AC Cloud uses ribknit, as well. So you'd be really helping out the FF cosplayers with this one. XD @-->--- Tess

Will you be posting like what the fabric should be used for. I know a lot of people can be confused by not knowing what fabric would be suitable for certain costumes.

The clear/see-thru, colored vinyl would be awesome. I always have so much trouble finding more than just red or blue.

The Crepes are definitely 60" wide, as are most, if not all, of the satins. It's also of note that the crepe is heftier and sturdier than Casa crepe (my Super Sailor Venus costume and Adella's Super Sailor Jupiter are made from this, as is my Vivi Nefertari costume in my gallery). The satins (except for a couple colors) are on the matte side and are more the thickness of Duchess satin. Both of these are fairly to mostly wrinkle resistant. Personally, I've found the satins amazingly easy to work with...unlike a lot of satin (coughcoughbaroquecoughcough). The black satin is especially gorgeous, IMHO. |

It'd probably be a bit too expensive of an investment (perhaps it could be a special order thing instead of a in-stock) but I can never find good silk anywhere that isn't dupioni. Fabric stores just don't carry it.

I don't know any specific names, but some decent (preferably natural) fabrics in wide variety of solid colors that AREN'T broadcloth would be appriciated. I find it terribly upseting when the only fabric that's the right color for something turns out to either be A.) broadcoth *gags* or B.) insanely expensive and shiny to boot. And since my only fabric stores in a 50 mile radius are JoAnns and Wal*Mart, this is almost always the case ;_; It also drive e crazy when I find the perfect fabric, but it's got a pattern print all over it @_@ Thus the reason I say "solid".
