Hey I been skiming throw this and im a Daft Punk fan. I would like to get a helmet all men i mean it be great if i could wear it to my local con. Now I seen the helmet pretty pricey I mean if you just got a helmet no lighting you could buy one of those belt buckels with the LED in it and put it in the helmet

I just happened upon Cosplay today while searching for my Daft Punk Helmet (Thomas Bangalter) addons. I have the helmet more than half completed, but I am finding it extremely difficult to find a suitable LED panel to put inside. If anyone has any suggestions, it would be much appreciated.

I am using an open-face motorcycle helmet purchased off Ebay as the base for mine. I will be sure to post pictures and a step-by-step when I complete it. But as of right now, I'm stuck on the Damn LED panel!

Great minds eh? I ended up here looking for A Daft Punk Helmet. Here's what I would get

http://business.search.ebay.co.uk/le...1QQsacatZ93477

Nothing to do with me!

it says the dimensions are 9" so if that was curved it might just be perfect. You could probably take it apart and just be left with the bit (get rid of the casing etc) If the LEDs are mounted on a printed circuit board you've probably got little chance of bending it. However red LEDs like this are very cheap and you could buy some motorcycle helmet smoked visor and loads of LEDs just need to drill loads of holes and run load of wires. At least this way you'd be able to see where you were going, lol.

Any chance you could point me in the right direction on ebay for a starting helmet. I notice on another forum that the helmet is not full back (more like a baseball cap/hat. I'll try and find that pic again.

Yea dude that the kinda of helemt I going to make, But my base is a baseball helmet. I cant rely think of a better one. what kind of helmet you buy? As for the LED panel like I said if you want to like make words in lights and stuff. I think a good one would be a good size for that style of hemelt would be those belt with the buckels with the LEDs in them that say stuff. Get one take it a part and rearange it.

I made a prototype with a baseball helmet, however I ran into two things that I didn't like.

1) Comfort! I dont know about you, but my baseball helmet was not comfortable for an extended amount of time. Seeing as the primary purpose of the costume is for the Vegoose music festival in October, and I plan on staying "in character" for the entire day, I want to be comfortable in my helmet. Motorcycle helmets are made for extended wearing and are extremely comfortable as well as breathable.

2) Shape! Look closely at the Thomas helmet. You notice that it cuts off above the neck on the back of the head. A baseball helmet is designed to fully cover the head for protection. For believability, a motorcycle helmet is the perfect shape and coverage. Unless you plan on cutting the helmet, which was more than I felt like doing.

Ive sanded away the model number, but it was a random Harley Davidson helmet on Ebay that was the perfect fit in all categories. Just go to ebay.com and search for "motorcycle helmet". Pull up some Thomas pics and compare the shape with the search results and your bound to find one that works. I spend 25 bucks with shipping, and its amazing.

Im checking on the LED belt buckles, and am trying to find one thats the right dimensions. Let me know if you see any.

Also, let me know if I can be of any further help.

Will you have any pic of the helmet or can you look at your order form from ebay to find the model No.

Marvs, those shapes look good, but keep in mind how far the front of the helmet sticks out. If you look closely at Thomas's, his facemask is pretty conforming. The chin rests right on this real chin. Those two helmets you found seem to come out rather far. I dont mean to be too picky, but for mine I am going for the closest to the real thing as possible.

Also, I would just get a cheaper one, and chrome the whole thing together.

Just my 2 cents.

Has anyone heard from Daguru??

Can you go into more detail on the wiring? Where can I get it, how did you sew it on, etc? Thanks!

Hey guys. I too am looking to make a guy Daft Punk helmet.
Would this method of cardboard bending work? I was thinking to find a template for a rounded one and just cut off a lot of the front for the visor.
http://www.instructables.com/id/EB96...6YYX/?ALLSTEPS
Also, for the visor, I was thinking to use 2 pieces of thin bendable plastic, sprayed metallic gold with pinholes for view. In between the plastic I would put the LEDs but I don't know how I'd implement them cause the belt buckles would be too big and not cost effective (the ones on ebay were $2 each, but they were from australia and shipping was $25 each, so thats like $100 bucks plus)

For anyone doing the full body suit, this is the fiber cable I am using to line the seams. The same effect they achieved in their encore where they are outlined in red.
http://www.fiberopticproducts.com/Wire.htm

The 1mm version is the perfect fit for the DP suit. Hope that helps.

im making a daft punk helmet at the mo and the best way ive found is to pay a plastics specialist 2 grand! or you can get a style of builders hardhat £12. then a scrolling led belt buckle £6 as your eyes. then you get another type of hardhat were it has a grill type effect £8, carefully cut out required bit and stick it all together and spray silver? for the ears use sum cheap headphones? you can program the belt buckle to say what you want? ive seen daft punk 6 times now and they were the helmets for 120mins? x
