I'm pretty certain I can make a good job at getting the shape right. The overriding problem I have is the chroming of the plastic. Don't think silver paint would cut it. Only cheap solution I can think of is silver leaf and polish it up to a shine? Any other ideas?

The jacket I'm using

http://images.channeladvisor.com/Sel...2-Black-f1.jpg

I have some extra stuff to sew onto it, such as a zipper cover and the epaulets on the shoulder. I also have my 1mm fiber optic lines which will be run in all of the seams

WOW. That is EXTREMELY close to what T&G wear.

For our EL-wire suits, we're making our own. It will be expensive, so I had to cut back on some EL wire and have a shortcut or two. You know the area where the el wire is meshed close together?

Well, it loops up and down about 5 times and to save on el wire, I decided to do it differently. I have wide pieces of 1/4" elastic band that are sewn together side to side. They have a small gap in between them and they are sew together with clear thread. Basically, I'll use this as fabric for the ribbed corduroy-ish part of the jacket. I just need to put leds behind it and the light will shine through looking perfect.

Daguru, I kinda followed how you are doing the EL wiring. I would be curious to see some photos of the process to get a better understanding. Have you ifnished your helmet yet? Earlier in the post, you stated that you were almost done with the helmet. I would really like to see some pics of that

Edit:
I am also modding my jacket with the shoulder epaulets and the leather flap over the front zipper to be more on target with theirs. I am going for as authentic as possible with my costume, and expect to be wearing it to their Vegoose show Oct 27/28

Wow Aperson, how much does that Jacket cost, and where can I get it?? Haha.

Although for practical reasons I am probably NOT going with leather, just something that looks similar (I live in Hawaii, and I'm already gunna be hot as HELL).
Here are some places to get 20-30$ led buckles, these are the ones I've been looking at getting.

And as for being able to see out my mask, I noticed that it looks like where the visor juts out, there are slits cut into the bottom so you can see where you walk. Can you guys see them too? http://static.last.fm/proposedimages...530/274956.jpg

Anyways, I'm working on getting a vacuum table set up... I'm having some problems finding the right plastic though. Anyone know any good places to buy/order thermoplastic? And what thickness to get? I'm hoping that Chrome Auto paint will get me close enough to the right color.

The whole baseball helmet idea seems to be the best option for me (a first timer). However, how would I go about making the mouth part?

Also, if I do not know how to vacuum form would having it done for me be really pricey? I am more into having the costume than making it myself. I just want it because I love Daft Punk and want to go as Thomas Bangalter.

Speaking of DP helmets, I continued my Thomas helmet and I'm almost done. I'll be getting it as smooth as possible, then casting it into fiberglass. I'll send it off to a vacuum metalizer to "chrome" it. Hopefully it'll be back before the DP concert coming up.

Daguru, You havent updated us in a while on this. Where do you stand with your helmet?

I just got my EL Wire in, and am modding the jacket over the next few weeks.

Anybody considered making their own Daft Punk themed design? Seems like more fun and if done right will still fit in well. I haven't seen anything like this yet.

I have no idea what kind of helmet I'm creating, but I'll be in my own style of vegas + daft punkness. Any other people going to VEGOOSE? (other than aperson) We should totally meet up. (not that we won't recognize each other in freaking helmets!

Hey guys, Ive read this whole thread and theres alot of good info here thats gonna be helpful for my Bangalter helmet that Im just starting to make. Right now Im slowly collecting all the parts and materials I am going to need.
But what do you think I could use for the tinted visor? Right now Im thinking about buying this full face visor and possibly tinting it a bit more depending on how dark it is (it says smoked but its not pictured):

Or can I just buy strips of plexiglass somewhere? What have other people used before? Thanks

My question is what you guys think could be used for the tinted visor on Thomas Bangalter's helmet? Right now I am thinking of buying this full face visor and then cutting out the right shape for it:

But there has got to be some easier way of finding some plexi glass. Do they sell in small peices anywhere? Also, will tinting plexi-glass be the same as tinting regular glass? Will it adhere properly even though its plastic? Thanks alot.
