Question Full Metal Alchemist

I have a question about Ed's automail arm. Well, more the construction and I didn't know where else to put this up buuuuuuuut here goes.
I knwo about the polystyrene method and I touched base with the wonder-plasitc thing that can be shaped in hot water. But my question is..
What if you just had craft foam with a layer of gesso on it plus a gray paint layer (most likely acrylic) with gloss spray on top? Would it destroy the foam or would it be absorbed into the foam? I'm just asking because the spray and gesso are slightly pricey so I figured I'd get some opinions before I try anything. ^_^ Thanks!

This is a question best posed back in the props forum, with a more specific subject line, to get the attention of those that would know.

Good luck though!

You can find it in the props portion of the forum. But you can also check other sites that may have more information.
