Ooo the bodice looks awesome! I wish I could do something like that. I'm planning on stealing my mom's sewing machine next time I go home so I can practice with it. I'm hoping that eventually, I can actually make costumes like y'all rather than hunt stores for obscure things. If I get any good, I'll totally start making stuff all the time.
Until then, I'm stuck buying things, which is totally fine when I find things like this puffy blue vest for Rory outfits! I've wanted to have a Rory outfit for ages and the blue vest is in so many of them, so I'm quite excited!

Another lurker coming out here. I just finished my River for Halloween, and I am quite pleased.
http://www.cosplay.com/photo/3083755/ I was also in Target earlier and spotted these shoes that I grabbed for under $30 to use with another costume for The Time of Angels. http://www.flickr.com/photos/freakap...n/photostream/ For comparison: http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/dw/ep...ies/wallpapers The shoes are not 100% accurate, but for $30 I couldn't pass them up. I'm just now learning to sew so I can make costuming easier. Eventually I'd like to make myself a TARDIS dress. |

You make a cute River!
Oh, and I saw River shoes at DSW that were really good as well. https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net...83 8752_n.jpg https://s-hphotos-iad1.fbcdn.net/hph...999 762_n.jpg Which is another option for people. Forgot to post them. I don't know the brand off the top of my head, but they should be on their website. I really want to buy them. it was horrible. lol

so I tea-dyed my white converse as suggested by moonflower so they look more like Ten's. and I think they turned out pretty good. I have never tea-dyed anything before but i think I did an okay job.

@CheruChan: the tea dyed shoes look good! I plan on staining the pages of my Tardis diary, but I never thought about using tea to dye shoes. Great job!

Hey all of you lovely Whovians!
Snooble-You make a GREAT River! Cheru-Your shoes look fab! Gotta love that tea dying. tealeafly-Check your local Forever 21 right now--they have an awesome coat which I will expound upon below! So for all of you VaTD Amys out there....if you're looking for a pretty darn good base coat to modify, check this out: http://www.forever21.com/Product/Pro...893&VariantID= I just purchased it today (they were literally just putting it out) and I'm VERY happy with it! Took the belt off and there are some slight modifications to be done, but overall it's the right length and very accurate color wise (in real life). Since I got it in between class, I wore it to my next seminar and it was very comfy too. So check it out! With the addition of this bad boy, I hope to do some sort of VaTD photoshoot this weekend since I know a place with some awesome sunflowers and my birthday is on Sunday! Yayyyyyy!

@leleana: Thanks! If you want to start making your own costumes, look up a few sewing tutorials to learn some of the basics. Trust me, you'll be sewing in no time.
Buying things is great though, especially for DW costumes. You can find some really great look-alike pieces. I'm glad you're gathering stuff for a Rory outfit. Mr. Williams needs a lot more cosplay love.@snooble: I have to say, you absolutely nailed the hair. Just the right amount of curl/volume, and natural-looking roots and highlights. Great River costume! @moonflower.: Want. I don't have any plans to cosplay River, but those shoes are so tempting. @CheruChan: Nice job tea-dying. No splotches, and the color looks really nice and true to Ten's shoes. @After glow: Oh my goodness. Thank you so much for sharing! That jacket looks pretty much perfect, and how lucky that they have teal as a color option. ^^ Best of luck with your photoshoot, and happy early birthday. ![]()

Thanks everyone! I plan to wear Rose for Halloween, even though that means just wearing around my campus. I wonder if anyone who recognize me.
Tealeafy- Your bodice looks really pretty! What kind of fabric did you use? leleana- Is there going to be an Amy or Doctor to go with this Rory? I can't wait to see it finished, especially since I don't think I've ever seen a Rory cosplay. snooble- Great River and sexy shoes! They're really close and its hard to pass up a deal like that, especially since I did the same for Rose's "Idiot's Lantern" shoes. Cheru- I agree on the shoes! They look like you bought them with that color and I have to admit that is much better than my first tea-staining experience(teabag ripped) XD Glow- Fabulous jacket and thanks for sharing the link! Who knew Forever 21 would have perfect cosplay items? Since Glow found a perfect jacket for Amy in Forever 21, I decided to try finding one for Rose and I think I found one to complete her "Empty Child" look: http://www.forever21.com/Product/Pro...849&VariantID= While I think her jacket is more of a really dark brown and doesn't have the fur, I really like how this one looks. Not to mention it looks like it will be quite warm as well, which would be really nice since this little Floridian could wear it when she goes to Ohio for this winter. What do you guys think?

^ I think the color looks lovely, and you're right, it looks very warm. Even though Rose's jacket doesnt have the fur, I think it's a nice touch. I say go for it, especially with Forever 21's great deals.
![]() As for my bodice fabric, it's blue cotton and the inside is being lined with burlap. It sounds odd to use as lining, but it gives great shape and it's what I had on-hand. I like to cut corners. ![]()

Thanks for the comments! I'm quite proud of this costume.
@Tealeafy: I'm ridiculously pleased with the hair. I searched forever for a wig that would be just right. River's hair is a bit longer, I think, but this works well. The curl was more pronounced when I first got it, but some styling with a wide-tooth comb works wonders. @Benihime78: Those shoes are fabulous! I'd love to put together that outfit as well. I'm a big fan of 50s style swing/full skirts. @leleana: You are the cutest Rory! I would love to cosplay him too. |

Since we're on the subject of Forever 21 and it's awesomeness:
Coming from someone who has worked retail for far too great a proportion of their life, (apparently) Forever 21 has so many duplicates of items because (mostly) they buy the patents for clothing from large companies after they expire and then copy them only altering minor details. I literally used to buy the F21 versions of clothing to wear to work because they were soooo much cheaper than what I was required to wear and were literally the EXACT same thing. That being said, if you're into Free People or Urban Outfitters clothing they copy a lot of their styles....browse the catalogs and then check F21 because chances are they have almost the exact same thing for like...1/7th the price! Also if anyone ever needs any F21 stuff, let me know! Ours is insanely large and has pretty much everything! Beni-Yay companion cosplay on campus for Halloween! I think I'm going to wear one of my two Amy ones....I kind of hope people don't think I'm weird though....

I essentially dress like amy all the time, have for like 3 years now, and people don't notice. (i live my life in miniskirts, tights, boots, plaid, and v-necks). so probably people won't think you're weird, unless you do, like, the poncho or something.

@moonflower & after_glow: I do the same. I've started incorporating my Amy articles of clothing into my daily wardrobe. So when I dress in full Amy on monday for class I doubt people will notice.
also for my femme!ten costume tonight I painted my nails like ten's tie. I am in love with them!! http://29.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lt...6025o1_500.png

I just bought a couple plaid shirts at Target, which are not 100% Amy-accurate, but are definitely Amy-like. One day I will put together a proper Amy cosplay, but for now, I'm still working out the River kinks and will happily throw together some Amy-inspired plaids, denims, tights, and boots.
