Great Cosplay Locations around the U.S.

I plan on travelling alot, and I'm looking for good cosplay backdrops around the United States.

I was wondering if anyone could show me the good locations in their cities.

If you haven't ventured over to Nevada, Los Angeles is about 5 hours away from Las Vegas. Well starting with tourist spots... there are large themed casinos that have wonderful places for photos. I don't think people really care if you cosplay. I've seen models in photoshoots at various places, such as The Botanical Gardens in Bellagio. There are also employees who dress up to fit the themes of their workplace.

Within a short subset of that span, thankfully, some don't have to go all the way to Washington DC for Californians, since we have a good cluster of Cherry Blossom trees in LA in Van Nuys that bloom right around mid-late March usually that make for beautiful shots when in full bloom.

However, Freight, seeing as you're from CA, that's probably less of a piece of useful info. XD I'm sure once you find your way out to the midwest, there'll be plenty of large beautiful rolling plains that can perhaps be nice for a big poofy dress. Though admittedly, we have a lot of those in CA too.

(This is the part where I'd insert that CA's actually a pretty nice place to live to try to find random cosplay scenery, but I'll bite my tongue for now XD)

The Japanese Garden at the Missouri Bontanical Gardens in St. Louis make a nice backdrop for cosplay photos. Actually, anywhere at the Garden makes a nice backdrop really.

Como park has some very nice facilities up here in the twin cities area in MN. Unfortianatly they have VERY strict regulations on photography at it, such as having a photography release on file, how many people can be present before you have to formally rent the place, how long you have at each part and in the entire place, and what equipment is not allowed. There are also some very nice parks around here and you can get some great winter shots with all the snow.

A place with real nice scenery is the American south-west. Moab Utah has really amazing arches and canyons that would make for great backgrounds.

This is all good, guys, thanks!

But I'm looking for specific locaitons. Rolling hills are part of what I need, but I'm looking for those perfect points that people know about.

Rolling hills....hrmmm....try browsing my Studio Ghibli gallery to get some ideas of the campus scenery. Though most of the time the hills are either grassy or straw like. ^^;;; PM me if you want to know where I shot some of them.

Note regarding Vegas - the casinos are amazing locations but they are fairly strict regarding photo policies. Unless you're willing to spend hundreds to thousands of dollars acquiring a legit license to shoot on their grounds, you'd have to kinda "sneak" it. ^^'

While living in Atlanta and shooting there, I would highly recommend the following locations:
Oakland Cemetery
Cenntenial Park
Emory Nature Center
Stone Mountain (kinda limited though)

Southern Ohio is wonderful for hill/forest pictures! ^_^ There's this lovely park known as Old Man's Cave that has rock croppings, forests and even a small waterfall!

Well, my front yard (in Holland, OH) has some lovely lilac bushes in bloom.

Of course, depending on how extreme your cosplay is, my mother might wonder about the "hallucinogenic nightmare" going on in her yard. XD

Seriously, though, Ohio is a very lovely state, especially for "seasonal" type photos. Spring means an explosion of new leaves and colorful flowers. Summer is all bright green trees and grass. Autumn brings ripening fields and trees crowned with red, yellow, orange, gold, and violet leaves. Lastly, winter usually leaves us with sheets of ice and piles upon piles of snow.

Good stuff all year 'round. Come visit us!

Just had to chime in on this one. If you shoot in cemetaries, be respectful of the people that have passed and don't stand on or sit on their headstones/memorials .

I know it supposedly "looks cool" but really it just shows you have no respect for the dead.

Remember, you aren't only disrespecting them, you're disrespecting those they left behind.

If you ever find yourself near Buffalo, NY there's a few good places! University at Buffalo North campus has baird point, it's a man made lake with these huge pillars. I go there sometimes. These's also Deleware Park. The place is huge, it has a rose garde, fountains, a lake, a japanese garden, miles of woods, a really cool stone bridge, ect. These's also Niagara Falls! The US side of the falls is all park, lovely place.
