Officer Jenny

I've come across a problem! (Of course I have, or else I wouldn't be posting here

A friend and I are cosplaying Nurse Joy and Officer Jenny. The problem lies within Officer Jenny's shirt. It looks like a normal, button up shirt would.

With one, very important problem: There are no buttons. ^^;;

So meanwhile I've been trying to figure out how to squeeze my friend into a collared shirt made out of broadcloth (no stretch!) with no buttons down the front.

Here's what I was thinking: A zipper underneath the arm, and then a slit at the back collar, with a button closure up top so her head can fit through. Or, maybe instead of the closure being in the back, I could make it in the shoulder instead, hidden underneath her epaulette?

If anyone has any better suggestions, I'd be glad to hear them. If not, then if anyone has a pattern for a collared shirt without buttons, I would also be glad to hear about it. I'm running terribly short on time, and I don't look forward to altering a pattern with buttons into one without. >_>; However, I obviously will if I have to.

I had the same problem with a Team Rocket costume, which I didn't have time to fix and ended up just putting a slit at the front of the collar for head allowance. Darn these pokemon costumes XD;

Aside from what you already mentioned, you might consider putting a zipper in the back.

I was contemplating this problem too when I thought I was going to make a jenny costume. The easiest 2 solutions I came up with were making it like a normal button up and just using snaps on the inside down the front or putting a zipper in the back of the shirt that would be covered by hair.

The usual answer is the zipper up the back. It only needs to go down far enough to easily allow the head to go through. You see it a lot in Sci-fi costumes.

The only problem with that is that is that, from what I can tell, is that my friend might have trouble fitting the shirt over her chest. She as a rather, uh, large bosom, which may cause problems, especially since Jenny's shirt narrows as the waist.

One word to remember: Velcro.

Think about it.

How about a zipper down the fill length of the back? Or a combination: short zipper at the neck and a zipper down the side seam.

From the costumes that I've seen, it's actually a dress.
