Question a staff...

I really want to make a staff...but I've never made one. The style I'm going for is Sailor Saturn's glaive. Does anyone have advice for materials for the stick/handle thing and/or the pointy top part? Also, how do you attach both parts? It probably depends on the materials, right?...yeah...

Hey,
Here's a tip...go to a home improvement store and buy a PVC pipe. After that you can uh make the top part out of shiny silver material then make it poofy by ummm...batting it...after that you just attach the sewn part to the PVC via slip covering...you sew the silver material to another color material that is the matching color of the PVC pipe then slide it on...

Hopefully this helps....

You can also buy a cheap broom and use the stick. That would be much sturdier than a PVC pipe.

Wood sounds like a good idea, too. Thanks ^.^ I'd like the pole to be as light as possible, so would pvc pipe or wood be lighter? *is bad with comparing this kind of stuff*

I used the method first mentioned for the pointy part of Sailor Saturn's glaive (making it out of material and batting it)...it was a small scaled size and made out of random faric, but it turned out great! I can't wait to do a full sized version ^.^ 8huggles people for all their help*

I would definately go for wood instead of fabric. It looks better, IMO.

Just get a piece of plywood (around 1/2 inch thick), draw on your glaive shape, and then either carve it out or you can use a jigsaw. After you do that, you can bevel the edges with a dremel tool. Spray paint it silver, and then attach it to the top of the stick (use wood! PVC pipe is not very good for these type of things) with wood glue and maybe a few staples for "safety insurance". (staples = staple gun. Just don't shoot it in your finger!)

Hope this helps.

Thanks! *glomp* Wood would (heh, that sounds funny) probably last the longest, so I will probably do that...I have a brother that rocks at wood-related anything, so I shall have to be all sweet for a few days, heh...
