You're taught to do the right thing, right?

I'll go ahead and say I know this will probably be deleted but I think the members of Cosplay.com should know what really goes on behind the scenes at the Dragon*Con Masquerade.

I'm almost dead postive that you all (or most of you) remember the crap from last year. If not, here it is in a nutshell. Adakie and Lady Thief were kicked off stage for being on there too long and no one could hear them when you can hear them on the DVD. A bunch of PSCS members and a few people from the entries of the Masquerade (such as the Dragon Dreams creator and the adorable little Inuyasha from MomoCon and her mom) decided to make a petition against the director because of how she handled it.

Well, it didn't work. Sunday afternoon, I went to turn in entry forms and crap to do a skit. Well, she said my friends could enter but I wouldn't. She then said I tried to deck her when all I did was rip my Masquerade ribbon, say "You can go to hell with your rudeness!" and walked off. The b**** says she had sixteen witnesses. It's amazing how thirteen of these "witnesses" appeared over the year.

On to the main subject of this post. I'm banned for two years since I "tried to deck" the woman. I was held back by three people before I even thought about hitting the old biddy. My mom tried talking to her and all she got was "I can't allow a threat to enter" and "You need to learn how to control yourchild!" As if not allowing me to enter the Masquerade wasn't insult enough, she just had to call me the "c" word! She was talking to me like one!

She also said that Adakie's skit last year only lasted 73 seconds. 73 SECONDS!!! If I remember correctly, they were saying that the skit had drug on and they needed to be kicked off. They were only on there a minute and thirteen seconds! If they can't hear someone, they should take the Masquerade back to the Civic Center since sound carries, but apparently, from what I've heard since this all started, the woman got asked not to bring the Masquerade back due to something that happened in 2004. Oh well. Karma's a b****.

Anyway, had it not been for my mom's angry rant and my dad's, I'd be banned for the lifetime of the con (with all the crap going on lately, I wonder just how long that'll be?). My mom caused the woman to stop and think and I don't know what my dad did. He came back from talking to her shaking and red as a beet. He was also talking with an extremely calm voice. I think he scared the woman, but oh well. I honestly think since the woman has known me all my life, she's holding a grudge. She's always been like that to those that cosplayed anime or game characters. My dad said I shocked her and she was afraid of me or something along those lines. Hell, I don't even remember half of it because I was so angry, I literally lost it. I just go by other people's stories and since all of my friends' have been the same, I believe them over her anyday.

Anyway, I just thought this should be voiced in hopes it won't happen to anyone else.

It clearly says on the D*C website that people need to pre-record any audio that they want because the contestants will not be given microphones.

Anyways, why were you so angry that this certain person got kicked offstage? The stormtroopers are called on when a skit goes "stale", which can mean either the audience can't hear a word the person is saying, it goes over the time limit, or it gets incredibly boring. I didn't see anime fans get any special treatment, good or bad.

And did you make the decision not to enter on your own, or did she say you COULDN'T enter? If you couldn't enter, it might be because they ran out of entry slots.

I was photographing last year and I have to say Last year there were a few acts that went over and got stale that should have been taken off. The skit mentioned that did get removed I understood had prerecored stuff, but the disk did not work in the equipment and because of that it caused no sound for the group. but it is events like this that makes me much prefere to just hall costume as I am all about the quality of my costume not doing skits.

I was told I was banned, which means can't enter. Also, the woman has known me all since I was born, thus she's holding a grudge. One of my friends in said skit was a fursuit and most people hate furries.

Umm.. Wow, EVERYONE lies about Dragon*Con. I'm supprized by how many people are easily convinced that DC hates anime or DC hates Furries. I saw no less than 20 fursuits throughout the weekend, and no less than 4 fursuits in the Masquerade. Hell there was even a fursuit in the Naruto skit that won "Best Orriginal" (How the hell does that happen?)

This year was both Connor and Josh's first year, and they had a blast and said how wrong everyone had made impressions based off rumors. They frigging Loved it and thanked me for dragging them to it.

Storm troopers escort people off the stage REGARDLESS of genere. You run over time, or you fail to amuse the crowd, you are escorted off. No offence because I think both Adakie and Lady Thief's stuff is great, but if your not catering to the crowd your in the wrong place in the first place.

You say everyone lies? First of all, you weren't on staff for nearly ten years of your (bleeping) life, listening and watching the internal politics that went on. You didn't see people who did nothing wrong get asked to come back. You haven't seen staff members get into arguments with the guests. Try being behind the scenes and say everyone lies.

The drama of the con has only gotten worse but not everyone sees it. The con was a lot better in a lot of ways when not so many people were attending. It's gotten too big too quickly. And if you do notice, they mess up on more anime skits than something like Star Wars or Star Trek.

Some random notes:

-A good recommended time limit is about 60 seconds, a bit less if you are by yourself. You go over that, you better have a lot going on and have the crowd engaged into what you are doing, or you're going to bore people. Most masquerade audiences get bored so quickly and really, if you're about entertaining the audience, you get nowhere if they 're bored, and you'll find yourself escorted off so that the show can continue.

-I'm sorry, you NEED pre-recorded audio if you want to speak onstage. I haven't seen an entry yet with a strong enough voice to carry in a large room, much less a room like what the D*C masquerade runs in, or even a place like the Civic Center. Just because the DVD picks it up later, doesn't mean the audience can hear it live. And if the audience can't hear it, the little jokes are lost, and the crowd's going to tune out.

-Somewhat related, but given the tone of this post, it bears saying...if you think a post might get deleted, then it may be a good idea to examine whether it's a good idea to post it or not. Obviously, doesn't apply here since it's already been submitted, but something to think about going forward.

I am a witness to last year. I was one of the ones that held Kayago back from doing anything stupid, so that lady is and always will be a B****. Now as for the lying about D*con hating Anime? Well They might not hate it, but SOME are not all to welcomeing when it comes to Anime cosplayers, they do have a certain additude.

And trust me there were a lot of boring skits last year when this happened, that didn't get kicked off.

Not really caring about the topic at hand but I did find this comment amusing seeing as the poster is only 17 according to their profile. I wonder how one gets on at staff at the tender age of 7?

It's called being known by every other staff member and having parents that are directors. Look up James Teems in the history of Dragon*Con and you'll see he was a director for nineteen of the twenty years of Dragon*Con. He's my dad. And please recount that I did put "nearly".

I started working on staff in 1996, helping my parents gather things for the Charity Events section of Dragon*Con. I retired from Staff last year. I was on staff for eight years.

My father once owned a music store (he recently sold it). I knew most everyone there, and they knew me. I helped set up for customer appreciation night, and I often polished guitars and helped set up new displays.
That doesn't mean I worked there. You were approximately seven in 1996. I'm terribly sorry, but that doesn't count as any work experience.

And when you act like a child (as you are right now), you get called one.
So please stop complaining and deal with it, child.

Now that, was completely uncalled for. She was just making a point that she had been working and knew what it was like behind the scenes and how people running it acted.

...Staff badge no esta actually working. When you're seven, you don't really work. You just gawk, because you're a CHILD and you'd most likely get in the way.
Like a child. Like now!
This should be closed.
