How do you start a J-rock band?

I just started going on this forums and I was wandering what should I look for to start a J-rock band. I can play bass and sing decent(I take lessons and used to play at school) and I have a drum set but I am not good enough to play a show with drums. My friend Kira plays guitar and Ayame plays drums, and i just started at CNanime but were thinking about starting a band. We need a Singer and were thinking about putting a guy named Andrew in it because he's amazing at playing the keyboard and editing. Me and Ayame used to play all the time but never in Japanese and we always played alternative like the Killers or Alexisonfire esque music (emo/screamo) with Jordan singing but we don't talk to him much anymore because he goes to a different school. How should I find a singer, should i just ask around at school? And were would we play because not many people Listen to it but we are thinking about using English and Japanese lyrics. Does it sound like a good idea or is it stupid? People in my area are pretty open....

(sorry I'm tired and rambling)

Thiiiiiis has nothing to do with J-Rock/J-Pop Costume Discussion. I'm going to move it to Music Chat.

Honestly, a real J-rock band is a Japanese rock band, generally from Japan. You'll just be a Canadian rock band that does Japanese influenced rock. ^^; Right now you'll benefit more from general tips on how to start a band, and you can probably find information on that online if you really needed extra help. Maybe ask around the people you know, too. Check out local bands and see if you can talk to them. *shrug*

That's the thing their are no local bands who even have Japanese influence in their music in my area and i know a lot of them from school and friends. No I'm not Japanese and ya I know I'm Canadian, I just like the music and my friends do, 3 out of 5 would be of Japanese decent but ya your right, it's not an offical J-rock band because we will probably have two Caucasians including me. And I didn't know (wrong thread) I'm new to these forums... sorry.

...Caucasians. ^^;

You can still look around for general local bands -- you'll need information on starting a band in general, yes, not just Japanese influenced in nature...?

Ya that was horrible grammar, most bands are screamo here anyways so they couldn't really help much, oh well Andrew is in and now we just need a singer fluent in Japanese, and I'll talk to some people at school I guess.

hey me my brother and friend are going to do the same thing and sing about anime and manga. and both me and my brother just found out that we're very some part japanese and our friend is white. But i don't personally think that you HAVE to sing in japanese cause bands like the pillows and silver fins etc. sing in english so i don't think thats a requirment i just do it cause i think it sounds cooler then english (has know japanese for a long time). And on the singer part, i've been a few bands before and it's really hard to find a good singer cause most are very self centered about verything so i would suggest that you do it with in your own ranks so to speak. Cause most screamo band singers can't sing any way thats why they scream.

I know but I like the sound of Japanese lyrics and we will add some english, and yes our singer will be Japanese and I can't scream, but i can sing decent but I don't speak Japanese and my friends that do aren't very good singers. That's the hardest part... finding someone who speaks Japanese and can sing at my school.

There's a jrock band with one caucasian member.
They're called FAKE? and they're rather famous.
The white guy in it's name is Ken Lloyd.

I think you may mean a visual kei band. And you don't need to be japanese to be in a j-rock band. Mushi has a white bassist, and I think he's Italian.

By the way, if annyone is in the Colorado area, other than filthy (already know you), let me know. I'm in one band that is not really working out.

r u trying to be a cover band? lyrics are easy to memorize, writing some in japanese is alot harder. u can be influenced by jrock bands, but i don't think trying to be a jrock band will work out here in the west. the only fans interesed in jrock bands are jrock fans so thats about the majority you're going to get. vk stands out too, if you're interested in that kind of fashion

Well, you have to either be Japanese or know how to sing and write in it fluently. Other than that, learn to play your instruments REALLY WELL and write good music. A mistake that a lot of aspiring bands make is focusing too much on their image and interacting on myspace and hanging out when they should be continuing their education and practicing like they mean it in their free time.

Well, in college, a white guy was President of NSBE (National Society of Black Engineers), so being a white guy wanting to form a jrock band isn't an impossible goal....I would say it’s important to be strongly tied to Japanese culture in terms of history, pop culture, language, musical influence/theory, etc…all things Japanese! There is a unique correlation with inherently understanding a culture to being able to “feel” the music, or “reach” a certain group of people with your sound….For example, in Kpop, (Korean popular music), there is this group Epik High, who doesn’t get nearly the love and respect from those living in Korea, yet they are definitely Kpop. This is because Epik High was formed really by Korean Americans (they grew up in korea, then moved to US), and technically was formed in California, not Korea. People like BoA, who are definitely Korean, get mad love and are considered Kpop all the way. My point in saying this is there will still be haters even if you were Japanese. Good luck!
