What kind of sword are you trying to make? If it's a larger sword, maybe my tutorial can help.

http://www.ksuanime.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6

The only thing I have to say though in addition to this tutorial is that you may want to sand the foam after shaping it with the knife to smooth out the imperfections, and then apply some fiberglass mat and cloth, THEN add the bondo in a very thin layer to finish coat it. That will make it stronger, and is the way I'm currently doing it right now. I've never worked with fiberglass before though, so I dont even know if the bondo will be necessary anymore.

*shrug*

At any rate, good luck, and email me if you have any more questions

I have a problem with my sword. I'm planning on doing Nightmare from Soul Calibur 2 and making it out of wood. But I think that if I was to make it too big that it'll be too big for the handle and snap. Anyone have an idea on how to make the handle to where it won't break.

For that bigass sword, I'd get a long piece of heavy wood dowel and run it through the entire length of the sword so it won't snap. Then you can build up ontop with foamcore and papier-mache, or foam & Bondo, whatever. ^_^

Thatll be good, but if i was to use foam or paper mache, itll be too light weiging. Im trying to make it feel like it is a true sword and mae it about 40 pounds, but that dowel rod might actually help, ill just drill a hole into the blade and put that in, thanks sarcasm.

First of all Im gonna give lots of credit to Melchior for the great tutorial I read a long time ago and got me inspired to do my Nightmare character primarily for his large swords. I chose to make the "soul edge growth". I did the same method melchior did but im just bout to put some bondo on it just to smooth it out. But let me tell u.....if u use foam....and put fiberglass over it....its not gonna be "light". I promise u ......u wont be able to weild it w/just one hand. I dont think I have any pics of it fiberglassed but its sitting under my demon shoulder piece. Hopefully in the next 2 weeks Ill have the main demon shoulder piece done and Ill get some pics up.

Haha, I am trying to make Black Rose's sword! I'm attempting to fiberglass it, maybe you should venture that route as well, or vyniacrill?
