ALA Masquerade Questions

Hey everybody. ALA is in less than two months, and I'm really excited! How about you guys?

I have questions, though, about the Masquerade. I thought about entering, but I'm a little worried because I've never participated in a Masquerade before, and I'm not sure what they entail.

From what I've heard and researched on the ALA website there are two categories: Presentation, which is mainly skits and songs, and craftsmanship, which is the costume itself. But what do you do on stage if you're only entering craftsmanship? Is it like a catwalk where you just model your costume? Do you have to do a skit? Are ALA's masquerades different than others?

Please help a confuzzled n00b! XD I'm still a relative newbie to cosplay, but I would love to be in a masquerade all the same. I just don't want everyone to laugh at me if I do the wrong thing or something...

You can't only enter craftsmanship, you have to do something on stage like a walk-on(where you can just walk on stage and pose with or w/out music) or a skit. You don't have to do a skit if you're just interested in craftsmanship awards. ALA's masquerade is pretty much the same as most standard con's masquerades. Hope this helped ^^

InuAshley's right, you can just walk on stage and look pretty if you want, you don't have to perform.

But this doesn't really go on cosplay.com. If you have more questions, try the ALA forums:

Hi -- I'm one of the Masquerade Directors for the Anime Los Angeles Cosplay/Masquerade.

All our rules are posted on the animelosangeles website at
http://www.animelosangeles.org/anime...007cosplay.htm

The masquerade rules are based on the ICG guidelines, which Andy and I had a hand in writing. As others have said, you do not have to do a skit but you do need to at least walk across the stage so the audience can see your costume.

I can answer any more detailed questions in the masquerade/cosplay forum on the convention website:

Exclamation Contestant meeting Sat Jan 27 at 1PM!

Hi everybody -- Kevin Roche here, one of the Masquerade directors for Anime Los Angeles.

We're trying to get the word out in advance that this years *mandatory* contestant meeting is at 1 PM on Saturday of the convention (last year it was at 2PM). It will last a maximum of one hour.

This means that the masquerade reg. desk will close at 12:45 on Saturday so we can get the paperwork over to the meeting. All masq. registration must be turned in by then.

If you are part of a large group and they can't all be at the meeting, please have as many as can attend do so; there is no telling who will come up with the important question!

We'll get forms posted soon (I hope this week) so if you want to get your paperwork filled out before the convention, you can just bring it with you ready to go. Don't forget the parental release forms for anyone under 18!

I'm looking forward to seeing what you put on the stage this year! See you in a few weeks!

Kevin
