I was thinking of gluing snaps on to the scales and on the sleeves but since I don't know anything I knew I should come here and ask.
Forgot to add in my other post about the scales. I took a sleeveless shirt and cut in the middle on the front side. Then I made a cloth piece to attach the cut sides to w/ velcro. (I used way too much of this stuff on this project :P It was the only thing I could think of that would work the best.)

I glued the scales to a velcro row and then sewed the other side of the velcro row onto the shirt. (This should work if you scales are made of craft foam.)

I'm practicing on a prototype cape right now. I'm trying to decide on what fabrics to use on the final version. I'm thinking about velvet for the outside of the cape for Ghirahim.

So I was thinking of cosplaying a Garo or a Poe (I haven't even decided which one yet) for an upcoming event. Both characters have glowing eyes, and I have no idea how to create this visual effect, does anyone have any pointers or suggestions (even if they don't relate specifically to the eyes)?

Hello everyone~

I wanted to ask for any advice, on what to use belt wise that would be strong enough to support wood props (Link's sword/sheath/shield)? Real leather seems to be the main choice, but I'm not sure if I can get a hold of some locally, was there any other similar substitutes?

Thank you all ahead of time! Keep up the awesome costume progress~

What kind of wood? Is it light or rather heavy? Most of my friends have had good luck with vinyl.

You can always use a strong synthetic material, like nylon webbing, and cover it in pleather/vinyl, as well. In this case, the pleather/vinyl is purely cosmetic, so you don't have to worry about putting the weight of the props on the cosmetic material.

I haven't picked a type of wood yet, I was just going to hand carve and sand over time. I was thinking heavy, just to be safe. If it can support that, than lighter would work too.

I'll look into the vinyl & nylon webbing though. Thank you both so much! I've never done wooden props, so I wanted to give it a try.

hey guys!

I recently made a photoshoot with my zelda costume and I'm so happy with the outcome that I wanted to share it with you guys. I took the pics near my dad's house and I was looking for a place that looked like faron woods, what do you think?

@ HylianKnight: I will second the vinyl. I would say it should be tough enough to hold wood. I have used suede for belts before and I haven't had a problem, I would imagine vinyl would work even better.

@ lunaishtar: Awesome photoshoot!! It looks like you had a lot of fun and your costume looks great. I love your wig choice too! Where did you buy it?

Cosplay Update: Still working on Groose and Zelda. I finally finished her gold belt thing, but I need to wait for more monies to buy more fabric. I am thinking in the mean time of making a Twilight Princess Zelda cloak. I have always wanted to and the fabric is just sitting in a bin... I figured why not. :P

Seifer-sama: Ah, thanks! I saw your wig progress on Zelda & Groose, they're looking great. You should post pics when you get your TP cloak done.

I got some materials for tunics already, so I'm excited to start them next month. Dremels are on sale too~ Still hunting for materials in general, but things are working out. Anyone doing a LoZ costume for Halloween?

@seifer-sama: Thanks a lot! Yeah I definetely had a great time during this shoot the only bad thing about it were the mosquitos, lol.

I bought this wig on ebay and had to style the bangs in it. I searched for it now but couldn't find it anymore (guess the seller is out of stock), but it was a Sailor Venus wig. I love the color it's vibrant and colorful just like the game =)

@ lunaishtar: Omg... I hate mosquitoes.... Honestly though, you couldn't tell, so I am glad they didn't affect the photoshoot.

Thanks for the information on the wig. I appreciate it. I just thought the color was very lovely, I might have to keep my eye out for it again if I need that color. As for the seller, I hope it comes back in stock again. That is one of the issues I have with eBay, it seems like when you find a product you like and try to look for it again, it's gone.
