how to wear a hanbok..properly!

*squee!* I got mine today, I think it was originally like $300US on gmarket...I got it brand new for $100US including shipping *lurvs lurvs*

It's goooorgeous! *will take pics soon* I can't wait to wear it for new years...and maybe we can all wear it together *i know...sorry..i get it AFTER CN LOL*

So main question...how do you wear the thing..PROPERLY?

Ok because the skirt, the waistline is "adjustable" right? Am I supposed to just tie it in a bow or something...ish O_O

Oki..and I have no idea how to do that nice bow in the front LOL

AAAAND big question...what am I supposed to wear underneathe O_O I'm supposed to get an underlayer too? Because BAAH I didn't know. I do have a regular long wedding petticoat to wear underneathe...maybe ktown has them for cheap??

Does the underlayer include something for underneathe the sleeves too?

[edit]Blurry pics added lol
hanboks > yukatas but fancy kimonos > fancy hanboks[/edit]

Oh no wonder!
I thought I saw this thread somewhere, I saw it on soompi and was about to reply to it cept I dont exactly remember, I haven't worn one since I was in 2nd grade!

Uhm okay first off yes there is an "underwear" or some sorts that you put on underneath the actual hanbok. It looks like a white fluffy skirt. This is so that the actual hanbok skirt will have a voluminous look to it and also so that it will cover you even if wind does uplift your chima (skirt). From what I remember there should be a string attached to the chima (look to the ends), you're supposed to cross it in the back the bring the two strings together around to the front and tie it. Then you slip on your jeogori (top) and remember, the LEFT flap will always be on top! There should be a small snap button thing to hold it in place. To tie the front knot... that I dont know but if you look around google you should find it that will tell you with detailed instructions. Hope that was helpful!

Other things you can do to make it "authenic" as possible is to braid your hair starting at the lower nape of the neck down and typing it with a large red ribbon. This signifies that you are single.

Have fun! Take some pics too!

well, most people wear a bolero- a white blouse underneath...and the only other things not mentioned i can think of is accessorizing with handbag, traditional style earrings and hairpieces to hold your braid or wrap your braid.....your hanbok is beautiful!!!

Your hanbok is so pretty! I have one that's very similar to yours, except the top is red and the bottom is cream, with embroidered round patches all over the skirt.

There is a really comprehensive guide online with pictures on how to tie the chogori together properly. I'll look for it for you.

P.S. You DON'T have to wear a braid these days. I know this because I did traditional dance and we always wore our hair up, complete with fake hair pieces if our hair was too short.

Here's the site: http://www.koreatips.net/english/cul...ent_howto.html

I haven't seen Young Jae's parents in months, and if I do, they are always exhausted and I don't want to bother them "can you teach me how to tie a hanbok" LOL

Anyone know if I can buy that underwear thing from ktown?

Im not good for the english, but, the way to use hanbok its with a white dress inside the hanbok, and you can use underwear, it's pretty hot. So you use two dresses... the white dress it's the same desing of the skirt of the hanbok... I have to learn more english

hi lainey, I hope you remember me? Kekeke.
Remember the hanbok I wore back in CNAnime? I can take photos and post them up or something to show you how to put on the hanbok properly or something haha. Just excuse the squished boobies... the sokchima (underskirt) was made to bind my chest =_=;;

lainey: haha no problem.. I just hope you're not in too much of a rush to learn how to put it on @ _@;; I've got so much work loaded on me right now... so it might be about a week or so before I get them posted up? I'll let you know on msn when I've got the pics ready =)

I'll post it up on here too just in case other people need to learn.

As lainey suggested, maybe I'll make a video so everyone can follow along~ kekeke..

I wrote this up before... it's the second half. ^^
http://forums.cosplay.com/showpost.p...8&postcount=74

...save for the last part. The loop of the ribbon of the chogori should be on the wearer's left. ^^;;

edit: quick shot of ribbon tying from wearer's persepective. Imagine you're looking down at your ribbon. ^^ Just remember to keep all the ribbon flat and not twisty. Then nicely fold the leftover ribbon forward and down. ^^

Hope that helps and good luck with your hanbok~ ^^
